Many thanks Paddy - it's great to know what it is !

Sounds like I will need to try to acquire a copy of Wither's list of Evasions along with literature (with decent pictures !) on contemporary counterfeits, as I'm likely to run into other examples (based on my so far 5 and a bit months of collecting). I did wonder if it appeared in  "A Journey through the Monkalokian rain forests in search of the Spiney Fubbaduck. (Evasions)" which I believe also covers evasion coins.

Best Regards

That sounds like a fascinating book!

The Withers list of evasions is part of "The Token Book" (volume 1) by Paul and Bente R Withers published by Galata in 2010. When I last went looking for a copy of this for a friend I found it difficult and expensive to buy - I hope you have better luck.

The book also covers 17th, 18th and early 19th century tokens very well - not completely comprehensive but enough to cover most needs.

The Token Book volume one had a re print in 2022 and is available on the Galata website. Priced £65

Wow! That has hiked a bit! It was £25 when it came out in 2010, but second hand prices quickly jumped to around the £65 mark, so I guess they felt there was the demand to justify it.

The Token book 3 is double that, I've been toying with buying it but I don't think the amount I'd use it would justify the cost

Took me a while to find more info on Book 3 - Tickets and Passes. A very niche topic and not for me I think.

I'm sure I would find it interesting, and I suspect I have had a few goodies through my hands in the past, which I would enjoy looking up, but I am not collecting or buying in that area now.

I have Book 2 - Unofficial Farthings - and have rarely used it.

PS. By the way, if anyone is looking for a cheap copy of Book 1, there is one coming up at auction at Whitton & Laing in Exeter on Friday.

So much wrong here besides 1985 Vic. The screenshots from a different eBay listing, not even cropped. The price. The AI description.

Amazing that they’d gamble an 1800+ positive feedback on something like this? Crazy!

Yes, especially as I messaged him a few days ago to tell him it's a modern replica.

Certainly, this purports to be one of the Lavrillier coins. What I don't get is why anybody would try and 'sell' this coin on ebay, even at the price of £86k. Given that ebay now withholds payments until the transaction is complete, they are not going to release this amount to the seller, just like that. Once it becomes clear that this is a con, it will be cancelled and the seller has failed. All I can think is that the seller, with an amazing feedback of 3, has no idea that they don't get their money immediately.

Why don't E.bay stop this kind of thing.   !! Obviously a fake !!   One Penny Coin | eBay    Mind you I can't see anybody being mug enough to buy it ?

Looks it eBay might have done something as the page is now "missing" rather than listing ended by seller.

I sent them a message reporting it, hopefully others did to ,and ebay emailed me last night saying it had been pulled and action was been taking against the seller.
