Rather more disconcerting is the selection of similar sponsored items with equally misplaced decimal poimts. For only a few pounds less you can get an MS64RB 1967 halfpenny, with an MS64RD a snip at half that. It's what happens when people collect opinions rather than contents. Anyone who goes down this route deserves everything they get because they're blind by choice to the bullshit. Absolutely no sympathy.

I messaged the seller to say you can pick these up for £60 and sent a link to one, and told them it really isn't what you think it is. I got a four  word reply saying "not the same coin". Now either this seller has had their pants pulled down themselves, which I think is more than likely, or they just read the Daily Mirror and take that as gospel. Either way, the whole eBay description of the coin in the listing is a masterclass in Donald Trumpism.

If it wasn't slabbed, I could possibly understand his confusion , but it tells you on the slab exactly what it is .A silver (s1p) proof penny , not a steel penny missing its cuni coating error .If was was an unclad steel penny , how could it be a proof ??

I told her it wasn't a forgery, and just a strip end. I suggested she take down the listing and list it for what it is. Hopefully won't have to report it, but we shall see.

The problem with ebay is the number of willing idiots, all desperate to splash the cash on things they don't understand. A company that disregards it's own rules or anyone reporting items in order to make a buck, and a long queue of sellers looking to sell crap at moonmoney prices.

I too had issues with him when he claimed a coin was cleaned and wanted a discount. Interestingly, didn't want to send it back. I wouldn't deal with him personally.

I sold this coin to John Spring a few years ago and, when it appeared on Ebay recently I emailed the seller to tell him it was a forgery, a doctored 1853 penny.

I believe he must have sold it to Torcoins who are now trying to sell it as genuine. Ebay should be told.

I've shown a close up of my 1933 and as Richard says I to cannot see just how the alteration was made , but if I were to attempt it, I would cut a 3 off another 1930s penny leaving an extra amount of metal on the bottom of the 3 , Then take the coin that is to be altered and carefully remove the last digit down to a flat surface. Then I would etch down into the coin to the exact shape of the 3 . Finally inset the 3 into the hole with some kind of glue , as I think any kind of soldering would show . Although it would have to be carried out by someone with great skill such as a jewelry maker for it not to show . ???
