I think Paulus tagged me as I picked up an 1887 in a similar grade yesterday for £2.50. I Have not taken proper photos yet but will try to upload them ones from my phone.

I no doubt will get stung but out of the 12 or so coins I have moved on so far I haven't as yet. By small upgrades I mean I have been trying to get most of the half crowns in EF grade but as you know the consistency of the strikes can vary a lot do while the obverse may have nice hair detail and the wear to the tash and ear are minimal the reverse may see a weak strike on the upper left lions or the harp etc. I honestly have found having 4 or 5 1916's of EF ish grade to compare side by side helped me as a newbie. I don't have your level of experience yet Azda ☺

True but sometimes doing small upgrades is not only fun but a great learning experience with the potential to make a small profit here and there. I have only sold about 7 or 8 George V half crowns as I have upgraded and I have not lost money on them to date ☺

I believe about 82 days so as long as I get them back the week commencing the 15th it should meet the 90 days.

I went with CGS based on advice on here from those that had used them before, they were percieved to grade more harshly, were perceived to be better on British varieties and they were good value (despite the long lead times) versus ngc and pcgs (£14 ish per coin v £25 ish with the others). I'm still waiting for my coins back but the experience so far has been frustrating mainly due to the complete lack of communication. I really hoped the 'New management' was going to see an overhaul of the customer services. I can live with a 90 day turnaround if there are updates on when your coin is progressing through each stage. The fact pcgs is a 30 day turn around is appealing ☺. I really do hope CGS have a rethink on the intial fees or another British TPG imerges.

I have 7 coins with them now and intended to send 10 more in once those came back (before the whole Web site vanishing etc). I envisaged sending maybe 20 to 30 a year but the £600 they want plus the fee per coin means I could buy 1 or 2 nice choice coins for my collection. I liked the idea of cgs slabs as I am new to the hobby, I'm clumsy and I have psariosis so dust is a constant problem for me. Slabbing, I believed, would help me validate my grading and help with the clumsy/dust issues. I already put all my coins in Quadrums to help with 2 of these issues and it looks like this will have to be the way forward.

Small Clients If you are a brand new client and have one or two coins for grading or have had less than 30 coins graded by the former CGS the costs will be prohibitive as you will need to submit at least 30 coins (there is a minimum spend of £499 for new grading members payable as an upfront deposit). We are anticipating that agents will soon set up that will supply a service to individuals who have the odd coin to submit. If you fall into the category send us an email and we will notify you when agents have been set up who can provide you a service. So people like me who have only had 7 coins graded are still in for the £499 fee/having to slab 30 coins in one go if I want to continue to use lcgs. ?

I called LCA Friday about a purchase and my coins and spoke with Semra. I got an update on both my coins and my purchase.

I have had the same mail. I wonder how many will take it up.

I would much rather the lots started within say 10% of the reserve than at £0.

For that sort of outlay I would want better pictures and the option to return them if I wasn't happy but as Jon points out, no returns accepted.

Sorry ChKy but you are nuts if you think the far right has taken over UK society. I live in one of the most ethnically diverse parts of the UK and there is no more interest, as far as I can see, in the far right now as there was before Brexit.
