  1. It looks like the 8 in the date is double engraved also!
  2. Here you go Rob...That file type is a Nikon Camera file! http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fileextensions/f/nef-file.htm
  3. Congratulations Neil on your new opportunity. I used to see Steve Hill here in the USA at some of the shows, maybe now I will get an opportunity to meet you in person there also!
  4. Just saw this in a USA Publication A H Baldwin & Sons Ltd confirm the appointment of Neil Paisley as Managing Director. Neil joins Baldwin’s from Colin Cooke Coins. A familiar name and face to many in the trade, he has worked within the industry for more than 20 years.
  5. That is definitely a open 3!
  6. Paddy, When this site first opened, The site owner (Chris) did have a donation tab available, and while he does not solicit donations anymore, many of the regulars, who use the site a lot will send him 20-25 pounds now and then, to help with the expense of the site. Not a requirement however.
  7. Don't forget your AARP card Dave...gets you 10% off on Hotels! ha,Ha.
  8. Is this a single? The coin is AU, so it is a pretty good example, if it is. Thanks to all for the help and the great pics.
  9. Thanks Scott. Can you make a close up of just the step and wave, of the two?
  10. Like I mentioned earlier, it would be nice if someone had a high quality single example to post. Most of the one's that people say are sngl, really look just worn and not really different, to me. Michael Gouby mentioned to me once that looking at the step from a 90 degree angle would make it clearer...but I still have not seen that much difference. Maybe I wasn't meant to see one! Ha,Ha.
  11. Are you saying the difference between the sngl and dbl is the "width" of the lower step?
  12. Does anyone have a close up, high quality image of a single line 1940 Penny? That seems to be something (the image) that is really hard to find.
  13. Terry. Is the 3rd penny down a single step type?
  14. The Gouby-x is mine. I was trying to respond yesterday but am having a little trouble with the Forum site...don't know why!
  15. Nice improvement in photography. Which set of pictures looks more like the coin in hand?
  16. That's a beauty Paulus!
  17. UPIN, Nice 3 Pence. I like the toning, also a nice strike.
  18. You are correct. The REG and FD are both re-engraved, and the A in Victoria is Strongly doubled (re-engraved). In fact the doubled "A" in Victoria is a identifier of the N/Z Obverse.
  19. Here is one of the examples.....
  20. I have two of them, both UNC, and both are N/Z. I have 10 others that are not tilted R.....
  21. The green goo caused by coin folders, and soft poly coin folders can be cleaned with Carbon Tet (Tetracloride), if you can find it. You don't have to rub, just dip it in the liquid and slush it around some, then rinse it off. Die Makers used to use it to clean tools. I don't know how hard it is find in the open market. There is a coin company in Sidney, Ohio that markets it under a different name, but it is really just Carbon Tet.
  22. Happy Birthday, Many Happy Returns of the Day!
  23. Alfnail is correct... "It is believed that coins are often struck using dies from a previous year, but without altering the date. Similar to your 1869/1868 example" In Michael Gouby's Study "The British Bronze Coinage, 4th Ed." He states that the actual coinage of 1869 Pennies is more likely around 430,080, since the 1868 Pennies were continued to be minted into the 1869 year. The 1869 mintage reported by the Royal Mint is 2,580,480......
