  1. I remember reading about another "investment" coin company in Australia from last year' coin news, someone was suing them because they have paid out quite an amount for a coin and was told it would increase in value of a period of time. It seems when this person came to collect the value had decreased by a considerable amount, so they started a legal process to recoup........ It seems investment companies aren't so wise after all when it comes to coins........I wonder if Baldwins are taking note of this, London coins does something similar?
  2. The seller is gb-classic-coins-uk
  3. I think that list was on the Stanley Gibbons website, those coins aren't for the faint hearted though and start at around the 6 figure mark
  4. I personally quite like the 8 reales and their history, plus the British plundered quite a few to make their own coinage when silver was in short supply.
  5. I think if they went to every fair world wide it would be quite tedious, they obviously attend the bigger events though. Don't you know anyone who perhaps lives nearby that you could give the coins to, they come to Munich around March, i handed my first few coins over to them this year at the Munich fair, it only cost me the return postage as i had a voucher for 4 free gradings
  6. We all go through the same process UIS, we've all bought coins that have been not up to scratch, in the digital age, good pictures are most valuable, i would think 75% of us have all bought a wrong-un at some point or other, it's all about learning, that's what makes the forum so good, and as i've said previously, it's only you that has to look and admire it, we're only giving opinions which you might not agree with either, we can be extremely critical, and most say it as it is, some people take it personally, others take advice on board...... Its a learning curve....
  7. The quality factor kicked in around 2008, everyone was wanting coins in tip top grade, VFs or lower just weren't cutting the mustard at this point
  8. You can take them yourself, but you must make an appointment beforehand, if there is a fair on and they are attending then they'll bring your submitted coins back with them saving you the postage price, or vice versa, they can pick them up for submission Here is a list of places throughout the year that they'll take submissions on site (saving you one way postage) http://www.pcgseurope.com/internationalshows?l=en&utm_source=eusite&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=genericshowen They're at the London coin fair on the 3rd September if you are around the area and are doing on-site grading in Paris between the 12th and 16th September And here is the link to the submission form http://www.pcgseurope.com/submissionform/paris/englishform.pdf?v=1.3 You can download and save that and re-enter the info anytime you wish to send coins off for submission, when the PDF form is printed off the submission number then becomes unique to your submission, as i was saying regarding your initial quote from the 3rd party which i assume is the London coin company, just think about how much money they are about to make on the postage alone, when in all probability they will just be handing them over at the fair in London on the 3rd September, they should have offered you that opportunity, but obviously don't want to lose out on some nice profit
  9. You make all the arrangements yourself, i usually use Fedex as they have a facility quite near me, you can also get fedex to do a pick up, you just have to fill all the details online... Register online here https://www.pcgs.com/Store/membership_account_info.aspx?pid=14 this will give you 4 vouchers, i think they are digitally sent now, whereas when i purchased membership they were posted, the voucher should be sent with the coins
  10. NEF for me, edge knock at 10 o'clock on the OBV, slight hair wear, most of it's problems are on the OBV
  11. Quality coins ALWAYS sell over estimate, it's the climate these days
  12. Atlas also buy from auctions, they will add the auction price plus their 99.99% premium on top as they did with the penny offerings, checking coinarcheives always brings up previous auctions realised prices from DNW, Spink and LCs along with Heritage and Stacks
  13. Sending them yourself would mean becoming a PCGS member. So, gold membership costs $149 which you can register online at pcgs.com, with the $149 fee you get a voucher for 4 free gradings, each grading costs €43 normally. PCGS EUROPE where you'll post your coins to imsist that the coins are sent with fedex or some other parcel company that gives adequate insurance for the coins you've sent them and they ship back with fedex which normally costs me €66. the thing with the 3rd party is that they are maybe shipping between 30 and 50 coins at a time using one shipment, now if each coin has a different owner, well, you do the maths at how much they can possibly earn just from the shipping alone.... P.S, next Paris grading week starts around 25th Aug, so get your skates on if you want them done this month, turnaround is about 10 days
  14. He said he paid only £20 more than £125 for the 2nd GVF that was uploaded by Michael roo Alan, so £145 plus postage I'm assuming
  15. NVF to EF is a hell of a long way in terms of grading and in price terms also. A very poor dealer if that's the case and one that should be struck off your list of places to look. Its something I don't understand about some people, if you want repeat business then surely you grade a lot more accurately than that, they're only shooting themselves in the foot for a 1 time sale....
  16. Well that is very interesting, slabbed bronze/copper can develop carbon spotting.
  17. Well my apologies, you can add a link to your website in your signature, it can be added in the control panel of your forum name where you can add info about yourself. Not sure about being the best forum for Irish coinage, but it's good to add another feature in the forum as its not really something that's discussed a great deal here unless it's hammered Irish coinage but someone with your obvious knowledge could expand on in a section within the forum
  18. Forum God is applied when you reach 1000 posts. 1925 halfcrowns in low grades along with most other coinage isn't considered rare, if you have come across these in EF or above then the rarity scale would kick in, check the ESC BOOK by Raynor he states this frequently in his footnotes. If you have seen them in EF or better I'd be interested in seeing a few pics as Geo V coinage was crap at the best of times (poorly struck)
  19. I think you're doing the right this time, a good dealer would mention the flaw, planchet problems do detract. Slow down in your urge to buy, save the online pictures and go over it several times before jumping in on a purchase.
  20. I'm going with a planchet flaw, the area where the beads are seems to be raised
  21. Alles gutes zum geburstag
  22. I can't help but thinking all of your posts leads to a link into your website, if you're looking for clicks then Why not add it into google? Just saying, but it seems to be the 4th or 5th link heading to a website with the same name as your forum name.....
