  1. Most penny collectors won't have that type of money to buy such a rarity, it virtually equates in price to a Una and the Lion, it was only ever going to sell to someone with very deep pockets either a collector or investor, it may have still ended up in British hands but I wouldn't like to be paying the import duty on it
  2. BU would be around a CGS 85-88 or an MS65, PCGS mark down on scratched surfaces and a possibility that CGS would also do the same and may even body bag it, I'd personlly give it aUNC, scratches detract (for me) but as long as you're happy with it that's what counts..... I had a Matt proof Sovereign that I thought would come back at around a 64 but it had been wiped at the mint and left minor hairlines, it got a 62 which I thought was low
  3. Wow, delete those 2nd set of pictures The coin itself judging from the 1st pics looks nice although a fair few OBV/REV scratches, possibly cleaned
  4. Yikes, so if a GVF is £125 I just wonder how much the OP paid for the EF coin......
  5. So why buy it if you knew it wasn't EF? The patchy toning on the OBV detracts for me also, but i'd agree that it's definitely not EF The link attached was graded as NEF and for me is a big improvement on the piece you have, i'd personally ask the seller to have it back, what did you pay for it? http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/img.php?a=151&l=2620&f=o&s=l
  6. Annnnnd another
  7. A shilled auction in progress.
  8. Its a copy, if you look to the left of the bust you"ll see WRL stamped on it
  9. But surely if they are being sold as legal tender then they cannot therefor reverse that decision without inviting those who purchased them beforehand to send them back for a refund, because when they early buyers bought them, they bought coins entitled "legal tender"
  10. We're all learning Paul, something new always comes along, even the penny boys can come up with something every other month.......
  11. Small upgrades? NF F GF NVF VF NEF, AEF, EF, GEF ECT ECT, will cost money, why change the same coin 6 or 7 times, you have perhaps been lucky, people tend to get burnt along the way, it's trying to help not getting burnt to much that is helpful in this hobby. I'm more than sure you've been burnt in the past.....As we all have
  12. For those buying these thinking they'll be worth a few bob now or later please read and don't waste your money http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-3390519/I-buy-Royal-Mint-commemorative-coins-bulk-credit-card-gain-airmiles-cash-bank-s-refusing-accept-them.html
  13. Better to find the right coin first time rather than continually upgrading. It takes time and patience
  14. Given that i bought this on the eye appeal only as they are a common coin, i thought at the time that £120 was a little expensive, but considering that a PCGS MS65 sold for $825 i think it's now a reasonable buy. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so i won't say if mine is better than yours, i have my own opinion, but others may think differently, including you..... You decide.... You buy what floats your boat, not on what others think, after all, it's your money to buy what you wish.....
  15. The last link was ended early which then is fair to assume someone has emailed the seller to tell him/her it's a fake, it does look rather soapy though which is generally consistent with fakes.
  16. Website is still down, wonder if this has anything to do with their ongoing battle against people looking at coin pictures
  17. I think in a nutshell it's UK based
  18. I think Bill has had a belly full of CGS and is maybe trying to distance himself
  19. I did mention the problems shortly after you'd sent your coins in Paul and the whole CGS problems came too light, wrong place at the wrong time unfortunately. They'll come back eventually, problem is there really isn't any new management, what i think they're trying to do is stem the flow of submissions because they can't cope. How long has it been now?
  20. PCGS has a 10 day turnaround, not 30, and you can see within 5 days the grade given. You also don't have to pay any extra to view the population report. In order to be able to send your coins in to PCGS you'd have to either become a member or send to London Coin Company, becoming a member at Gold level gets you 4 free gradings, each costing 35 euros, so the fee pays for itself. Their next grading week in Paris is sometime this month, sending to NGC from the EU will take a 6 week turnaround because they have no grading office in the EU and the coins must be shipped to the US of A
  21. That might be a good idea though Peter, a shared membership between those who use their service will reduce the costs, if there's 10 people then its a £60 fee, could be something for some of you to think about
  22. There is still the £499 fee for grading Peter
  23. Don't forget the £99 fee for the privilege of viewing them on their website afterwards Didn't they hang Dick Turpin?
