  1. Bah humbug! Just give me the prezzies and some beer. At least I can start commenting ‘evenings getting later’ from tomorrow. I try to be the first. And I do like New Year. But I gladly send my Best Wishes to you all. Jerry

  10. Yuletide felicitations to everyone. I hope 2025 is a happier and healthier year for all, and that we all manage to find a little unnoticed gem tucked away in an auction catalogue somewhere.

  13. An historical query: As posted elsewhere I recently acquired a 1739 Crown. When I showed it to a friend, who also collects, he immediately said that the 1739 coins were made from silver from the Combe Martin silver mines, which is fairly local to me here. I have done a little research online and have found no mention of this. There is plenty about the Combe Martin silver being used for coins during the Civil War 1647-1648. Anyone know any more or have any reference they can point me to? A picture of the coin to make it more interesting:

  15. Poetically put. Exactly what I wanted to say but I struggled with the correct wording. Hence the short post. Christmas Day off and back to work Boxing Day. Suits me fine. I echo Paddy's sentiments.
