I do understand Bob and look at prices daily........I have nothing better to do The coin in question though is 1912 H and completely different to a rare 1877 narrow date. If you get what your asking good luck to you and was more a question. I will look forward to you selling it as will set a guide

Agreed acetone will get rid of residue from PVC although dont want to go down the acetone route again Its more to do with the coin catherine or anybody else buys . People pay a premium for a slabbed coin and can understand why....... only my opinion. Although if a coin has been restored and the buyer is not made aware seems different. All companies mention/reject cleaned coins although the servive to do it seems contradictory if not mentioned on attribution. The premium catherine paid would he have been as keen ,but for this thread ?. We mention cleaning on a coin but not if we did it does not seem right. Nobody on here washes plates to restore them or preserve them.......cleaning is cleaning

If i was to buy a pcgs coin would the fact its been restored be mentioned please. Not just the Atlas coin as thats up to them,but is it on the label or the description on the website ?.

It was more to do with a guide to a price of a slabbed 1912 H penny and not really to do with anything other than the price of your coin and the other.. $900 and $2000 just seems a lot .forgetting the tpgs the spink price is £375

Whats that in £ Bob as in my opinion would be £350 Max its not as if they are scarce. I have one cgs 82 it might not be so far off grade wise and possibly not as good (close ) but paid £230 (already slabbed) and cgs say £350.

Its definately the same coin,its not like there are hundreds of them. it does make you think about buying a coin from the pictures from America and after all the fees involved on a coin of this value weather you would be happy when it arrived . Atleast with the Spink photo they dont hide anything.

Comparing them both and having purchased coins from Spink i would imagine somewere between the two. Which would still be a really nice coin

Well another couple of hours spent and thrown some more in for people who wanted them. Quite interesting looking at old prices from dealers..........Nigel goldman as an example,dont know if anyone bought of him but used to see him in spain all the time(although dont think that was a good thing ). Will post in the morning and found some more penny ones Matt but give me a few days to read them myself .......possibly scan. I have found one 7th March 1990 that has about 14 pages just on farthings . If a farthing collector wants it just PM me your address and will post in the morning FOC. Pete.

Yes agreed Ian,although could go on forever Another pointer on copper is the high points having a silver colour is a give away that its had a good rub

As an add on some coins show signs of things that are due to storage issues and one side a different colour. These have not been cleaned but will show as greenish colour /lines, marks and oxidisation mainly with copper . Suppose this needs a thread of its own but signs of blue on bronze or sheen from laquer are better looked at twice.

More often than not Ian from my limited experience a cleaned coin (on bronze) will show even colour and shine that is different than lustre . Also the letters maybe different as not cleaned inside/around etc. Overall though the coin will be shiny if thats the right word or dull but all the same colour. Alternatively you will spot small patches were the coin has been worked on specific parts. Under 20X magnification and gently moving the coin will show residue or signs such as rubbing ,minute scratches. Hard to tell from pictures sometimes You will also notice dark patches or alternatively the coin being a pink colour were it has been treated with an acid based product (vinegar)or patches from something like verdicare. As i dont drive due to medication going to send them all on monday as the post office is a couple of miles away i dont mind the walk but not with all these. So will need a lift to take them Pete.

Yes thats why i checked Matt and was definately the same coin .

After David had been messed around i got intouch with the seller . I told him i would collect the coin and pay cash and we agreed a price He explained he would be in touch on his return from holiday. A week or so later he got in touch to say he had sold it for £1,500.00............So yes its b*****ks
