Yes ,Richard will also know the ones known to date although a few are in private collections 👍
-
You will struggle to find any not known about to date Mike and the first one was discovered about twenty years ago , so far only 12 known. The one that sold for £500 was mine and the other a forum members. They are definately Rare and will be hard to find ,just to get some 1847 pennies to check is hard and only 1 or 2 a month listed on ebay.
-
Its the same one as Coopers coins.
-
The 1847 No Colon & Medusa is the same coin Peck ,so other indicators such as the shield & rose are easier to spot.
-
Yes i was putting both on Will but to save any confusion deleated the ebay one 👍
-
This was the Alan Stevenson coin for anyone that might be interested in one. https://www.cooperscoins.com/collections/florin/products/victoria-1847-copper-penny-extremely-rare-no-colon-pattern-gvf

Yes Michael has a photo and one of the 12 known ,i gave it to a forum member when i had a better one.

https://www.dnw.co.uk/auction-archive/lot-archive/lot.php?department=Coins&lot_uid=311875 Although again Copper pennies not attributed 1847 Medusa and bought a low grade one off ebay for £10.
-
The Large rose is like most Copper varieties and often not attributed ,like this one wasnt. http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=160&searchlot=2981&searchtype=2 Pete.

Thanks Ian as i mentioned i wasnt sure if i had ever looked or not and no doubt you have pointed it out to me previously ,i knew from memory i had seen some with the thicker rim around ten past 👍

Thing with the copper pennies Cliff is that both dies were often swapped .So although the REV die may be the same on two different coins the OBV has been changed ,this happens frequently with overdates ,repairs etc. So although i cant remember looking the REV may be the same for both date types and the 5 die crack being on the OBV just the small date. The same theory with the 1848 that is mentioned different dies for both the OBV & REV that were swapped around.
-
Not sure about that Cliff as the detail is incuse on the die so i dont think a die clash would of caused it .
-
Its wear to the REV die and not the coin i think ,the die was recut to form the rose so probably an old die.

I have seen a copper penny similar and was told by a dealer. The coin was put between two pieces of leather and over long periods of time slowly put under pressure and pressed. The term is known as rolled and why the coin is the same weight and thinner. So just done post mint in this particular instance ....I think.

have you seen the price of a kew gardens ?
PWA 1967 replied to craigy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
These Kew gardens have gone up quite a lot more over the last couple of weeks and circulated selling for £160 - £190 . The 2009 set with the shield in aswell now selling for £280 + , there are thousands of 50p collectors with one facebook group the other week registering over a 1000 people in a week. The £2 Gibraltar hercules series have all been selling out within a couple of minutes of being released ,with thousands not able to get them causing a secondary market. I am sure most new collectors are more interested in decimals rather than the pre decimal coins we all collect on here . -
SSSHHHHH dont tell him Terry 😂 ,i was looking at the 1878 & 1879 earlier and never have before , just wrote down what he was looking for. The ones he wanted are just on different dies and thousands of them. I dont know who is the daftest ,him for asking or me for looking ,probably a bit of both. Just need a 1889 wide date BP1889Cd and a cannon ball but he may have to find those.
-
I thought it would of been hard as never looked before but the 1878 ones i have found. I should of looked first before posting.
-
The 1879 and 1890 i have found although not the best grades 🙂
-
I have been asked if i can find / purchase any of these Gouby pennies for a friend who has helped me and thought i would try here incase anyone wishes to sell one. 1875 - Cannonball. 1878- 3 types of 7 1879- 2 types of 9 1889 - High 9..............Yes i have just sold one 😃 1890-Low 0 Thought it was easier to just describe them rather than put the Gouby reference. If anyone has any for sale please message me. Pete.

I get bored not buying anything so look for varieties for other collectors to fill gaps or to pass them on to dealers who help me .I found these three the other day and although not the best grades are quite sought after. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUEEN-VICTORIA-PENNY-1861-1D-GREAT-BRITAIN/363050949482?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUEEN-VICTORIA-PENNY-1881-GREAT-BRITAIN-UK/363050960017?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Also a 1861 F22 with the T in victoria struck over a higher T. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Victoria-Penny-1861-UNC-with-some-lustre/114306706652?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Thanks John and about what i thought ,i wanted to be fair and not ask to much and didnt ask you privately as know the one you bought was also not attributed 🙂
-
I dont know if anyone can help me please as i have asked a couple of dealers over the last few days and they dont have a clue. I have a 1858 Large rose Large date to sell graded CGS 70 AUNC UIN 42529 and a good one but nothing to compare it with. CGS have put a price of £125 and the only one they have graded , same price as a normal 1858 and worth more than that. http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&searchterm=1858+Penny+Large+Rose&searchtype=1 The ones in LCA above are the only ones i have seen attributed correctly and most the small date and low grade. Any help on a price or guide would be appreciated ,please message me if you wish. Pete.

When i did one ,i put the phone in a stand ( cut a hole in a plastic tub 😄 ) which then allowed me to have both hands free.I put the coin close to the camera ,tilted the coin a couple of times and turned it over ,so moving the coin at different angles. It was just an alternative way of looking at a coin that represents exacly how you would view it if looking in hand. I was bored the other morning and just a different way of putting the coin on the forum ,although Matt ( Forum member ) three or four years ago sent me a video of a coin which he wasnt sure was a proof. We both agreed at the time it looked so much better with regards being able to tell than the photograph. Much better to move the coin close to the camera and turn it over than just doing a video of a flat coin that isnt moving ,if anyone can be bothered 😃

I think most of us who often look on ebay have found coins cheap , not being attributed or the seller maybe not knowing what they had. One seller though who does deserve a Hat Off is Mr.Jerrams ,always described properly with good pictures ,quick postage and will accept returns. I probably get the quickest delivery as he just crosses the road and gives them my daughter straight away 😃 This is one i bought of him a few years ago ,which at the time i didnt realise was as scarce as it turned out to be and was described by him as " BP1896Ad Wide date GEF and Rare " . Below is the link for his current listings. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/topcarp2/m.html?_trksid=p3692
