  1. At one time 1865/3 was thought to exist as well but I have never been convinced with any coin i have seen - u ever seen any likely canidates colin?
  2. Oh please , these coins fetch £1 or £2 on ebay are you really that interested in a poorly struck coin why not go for a 1918 penny at least it has a bit of age to it
  3. Coin is Ef / A unc loads and loads of marks on the obverse leave the coin well off unc or even a/unc
  4. It must be over a number of years as the profit stated in anual report 14-15 is around 11 million . this includes and old coins melted and turned in to new £35 million does not just dissapear into thin air (unless your name is george osbourn)
  5. oh its over a number of years not just 2014-15 then
  6. I doubt very much the whole profit from coin operations in 2014/15 was any more than is included in the anual report at around 11 million pounds , remember this includes all its other interests as well such as melting down coins and produceing new ones with the old (very heavy on energy use though). To be honest the royal mint is actually not a very profitable company and does not "make a mint " like most people think
  7. It is really easy to sort steel and copper and bronze 1p and 2p pieces all you need is a thing called a magnet.
  8. As for the above statement that the royal mint asked for the undated coins back , I consider this a load of rubbish the mistake was first noted in numismatic circles about eight months before all hell broke loose with the london mint office announcment to the public . It is thefore likely that the royal mint knew about the mistake and accepted the idea the coins were in circulation and worth face value There is not a cat in hells chance that any undated 20p coins would have sat in a bank vault for that length of time - they all ended up in circulation - I myself found four or five before the london mint office announcment , i only ever found one more in circulation afterwards. I would be interested in a copy of this bank letter but I strongly believe it does not exist as, the cat was allready out of the bag , horse had already bolted, a good eight months beforehand
  9. I have never heard of any country "withdrawing" coins if they get out it is just accepted and they just become collectors items , that goes for the olympics 50p as well - I think they were all issued in the £2.99 cardboard sets from the mint .
  10. At a quick guess I would say there were around 80,000 undated 20p coins that entered circulation They were NOT withdrawn from circulation by the royal mint but by people who found them in their pockets, putting them on ebay . How do you think the royal mint would withdraw them anyway? The only way would be to get banks to take them out of circulation and as there are about 20 000 000,000 of them in circulation it would cost a fortune to sort every mint bag in every bank , it would also have to be done on an arranged day , the man hours involved would be massive Do you seriously think the royal mint would do this - no chance - they even said in a press statement that they were "worth face value" no more.(folks on ebay thought differently) My brother worked for a bank at the time and he never heard of this recall.
  11. Nutsabout coins is right from what I have heard . I did read the artical in their numismatic society about the undated 20p and its wrong , in fact there are three different 2008 20p coins , there is the early design 2008 20p, the mule, and the ordinary dated one
  12. Really for the coins rarity it is overpriced for instance there are probably less TB-RB 1860 mule farthings hanging around than these 2p coins . When do you ever really hear of a decimal coin collector? Hardly ever IMO. At least there are plenty farthing collectors around . Hyped for its rarity IMO
  13. That farthing forgery keeps on being relisted - looks like for once the fake pedlers are finding less and less suckers want to buy their goods
  14. The anne copper farthing that had traces of gilt and was "Ex heritage" looked like a cast contemp forgery as well - it at least fetched a good price though I am glad it was not me that bought it
  15. very wize and great digging info . Even though we know these charlatans will be gone in a couple of years -its the damaged collectors they leave behind that are the unlucky ones
  16. he is on the third listing of the coin so looks like people have got the idea that there is something wrong with it
  17. Beats me how some people make a living off selling coins when they fail to spot a obvious fake like this
  18. Have a look at this coin 321966487122 Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing. Looks really strange to me , like its a forgery , well overpriced as well so I am certain nobody would take a chance on it . There again you never know
  19. Yes please repeat after me Mr cammeron - "I should have been nicer to Immigrants" "I could of been nicer to immigrants" "I would of been nicer to immIgrants" But theres no votes innit for me 'cause they are all Dailly Mail readers. DAVID CAMMERON
  20. most interest in 1880 farthings concentrates on the obverse
  21. These little tokens were very popular for a few years till the mid victorian period . There are many subjects but they seem at their most popular about 1805 till about 1860 There are lots of themes Waterloo Nelson Death of george III Death of george IV wife and daughter Death of George IV (more to be celibrated i would have thought) Georges coronation Williams coronation Victoria crowned. Some are cheap and nasty prob costing a few pence from street sellers . Remember there were no video tapes or dvds back then so people made do with what they could lay their hands on. Whoops just noticed it falls under the 1790s token series - It certainly looks more like a medal - It probably had a dual use
