  1. I really doubt if there is any money to be made sending up coins to be slabbed in the uk if there is I am sure it's in the £500 ond upwards coins so i am sure the trend will not bother me much , not on my budget anyway

Frosted to fool you into paying £300 for it - you are just the customer the royal mint wants at this moment
  3. Did she get to handle your crown jewels?
  4. You would expect a victoria die no on any coin to have had a least 99,000 other coins exactly the same made therefore there should be no unique or near unique die numbers . This really is not the case there are many cases of practically unique die number coins . As for collecting ALL OF THEM NAY NAY AND THRICE NAY. A lifetimes work me thinks
  5. lots of wear on obverse
  6. could be real and tooled , but more likely a fake
  7. TBH I think the idea another 1954 penny will turn up now after all this time since decimalisation is a bit laughable . If i was an underighter I would gladly give the owner of the 1954 a policy against anothers appearence , money for old rope
  8. in the seventies i hear it was in private hands - it does seem unusual the bm does not have one .......but when a coin is that rare.......... Interesting about the 1953 pennies though, they are often found in circulated grade - prob folks who found themselves a bit skint in the late fiffties and broke the 1953 plastic set open , it was for sale with no premium attatched then - unlike the mint of today that charges £12 for a £5 coin and £8 for a £2 coin , basicly double or more than the price of the coin , excessive overchargeing for the packaging IMO
  9. At a quick glance I get a- EF light edge damage b-GF/nvf c-A-unc or unc d-same E about fdc f-GVF G-unc H-nvf/vf
  10. Exactly, and this period still has great interest to us collectors, pity about all those melted down hammered coins though, esp the charles shillings
  11. silver coinage was made in several provincial towns in the great recoinage - i suspect the dies were made at the tower mint and safely and carefully sent to the towns , york , chester , etc probaby with a couple of senior staff to oversee production.
  12. I think at the time silver production and copper production were in seperate areas of the mint . I surpose everyone wanted to work on the silver and gold coins as they would have more presteige. So the dregs and apprentices got the jobs on the copper
  13. yes probably sold in the vatican to those guliable tourists for a fortune - I went there a couple of years ago and the rubish they try and flog you is amazing - plastic pope anyone?
  14. The seller has obviously taken the ignore it and it might go away,(sometimes called the ostrich in the sand)attitude to the coin and the damage . It will however mean the coin will never sell in the end - the only thing that will is reduceing the price
  15. At a guess i would say a £200+ coin - not a series i know much about though
  16. looks a little like the obverse has been lightly cleaned at one time
  17. I found one in not much worse condition (good fine)at the birmingham coin fair in a £5 coin box - I snapped it up it is a lot rarer date than folks realise. The damage on the coins reverse has turned it into a £50 coin and the seller should soon realise this . I could cry looking at the damage
  18. Atractive very good fine reverse might even be pushed to nvf
  19. In Dennis heally speak the royal mint is adopting a "screw them till the pips squeek" attitude to coin fans
  20. TBH I would grade as very good fine , its also true you never find decent examples - the reign of steven is even worse
  21. Almost certainly 1723, the 1722 and 1724 dates are a lot rarer
  22. Price is ok if there is a sovereign and half sovereign in there
  23. 9/9 has to be wonderful though very clear
  24. Halfpennies are pretty hard with few in much more than washer state , nicer grade coins are few and far between
