  1. Just a thought as these coins look like they never had a hole would everyone on here feel comfortable selling a coin as undamaged?
  2. Mail would not consider worthy of publishing this story without either a big bung ,or mention of isis ukip or illegal boat refugees from africa
  3. The lion while quite a good likeness has a very hairy mane all wrong it looks like it has grown twice as long as it should
  4. young lad 5 experts 0 he he he even an idiot can spot the difference between pewter and silver
  5. I love the reverse obverse is less lovable grades Nef
  6. There are literally millions of forgeries issued into circulation in George the thirds reign , it was considered a very serious offense to pass them on in this reign that saw off napoleon and the french revolution . If they had taken over from the circulating coin it would have had a very serious effect on the economy
  7. I think if I remember rightly George IV was about 35 stone and could not move from his bed for the last few months of his life - prob not pretty sight so I agree the portrait is flattering on the crown. By the was back to the original discussion, nothing apart from maybe a gold Gothic crown comes near the una and the lion
  8. And we all know out there don't we , you cannot beat a good dump, LOL
  9. godless is only the 1849 gothic is any florin till 1886
  10. Looks good to me (my opinion but prob right)
  11. Yorkshire was quite a stronghold for royalist sympathizers , it also had a lot of it's castles destroyed by the parliamentarians , such a shame they were really nice ones as well , not as grand as the welsh ones but pretty good
  12. £25 to £40.00 sounds about right , price drops off a cliff if coin has no luster though.
  13. Might have something to do with the penny being the main coin that went in old slot machines and vending machines prior to 1960
  14. Not for circulation no , if any are in circulation it would prob be one or two - which would make it THE RAREST COIN IN CIRCULATION .... unless you know different?
  15. Yep like Chris said the market is mainly lead by numpties who know nothing about coins . shows that even after 250 years the general public are still as gullible as when the Anne farthing story came out in the press.
  16. There are in fact lots more kew gardens coins than the 2009 blue peter coin , because there were all the coins in the year sets , baby sets and proof sets that were not included i would think that adds up to another 100, 000 at least
  17. yep i noticed that as well - but i only got one
  18. Very hard to tell with gold - get your jewelers loop out and see if you see light scratches from a cloth
  19. Obverse looks gef and reverse a-unc love the I over I in gratia
  20. Interest rates look to be going nowhere fast prob for the next twenty or so years, looks like we in the Uk might suffer the effects of negative inflation and negative interest rates that japan suffered twenty five years ago (and are still suffering from now may I add) funny old world isn't it? Coins i would expect to carry on their upward trend. Like several folks have pointed out there is a wild variation in performance with coins , it does not take a genius to work out the investment potential of a mint grade 1967 penny is close to zero , but that of a gvf say halfpenny (or halfcrown) of William and Mary is a different matter. With a static number of coins out there and a slowly growing number of collectors there is only one outcome.
  21. Well to be honest , it's about time coins turned into an investment . Many coins were sold as investments in the mid to late seventies and even into the early eighties , most all turned out a big losers . At least in the last twenty years or so coins have not really been sold as an investment . This accounts for the healthy market we have now and not the top heavy one like they have in the states which is vulnerable to fadish swings both up and down. The only sign of this happening in the uk is the way the press has treated the kew gardens 50p and the undated 20p
  22. No the twopence is more impressive a great big lump,1797 although it is the first penny to me is not as iconic. A 1935 crown could well be in there , even though its cheap, its a classic one off design. Anne farthings and gothic crowns are considered patterns , so although they circulated I am not sure if they count.
  23. The owl really looks like harry potter as well
  24. As a piece of art it's laughable
  25. Errrrrr .... no ...still cannot spot any luster, the blueish tinge from it being cleaned is unmistakeable though
