There are in fact lots more kew gardens coins than the 2009 blue peter coin , because there were all the coins in the year sets , baby sets and proof sets that were not included i would think that adds up to another 100, 000 at least

Interest rates look to be going nowhere fast prob for the next twenty or so years, looks like we in the Uk might suffer the effects of negative inflation and negative interest rates that japan suffered twenty five years ago (and are still suffering from now may I add) funny old world isn't it? Coins i would expect to carry on their upward trend. Like several folks have pointed out there is a wild variation in performance with coins , it does not take a genius to work out the investment potential of a mint grade 1967 penny is close to zero , but that of a gvf say halfpenny (or halfcrown) of William and Mary is a different matter. With a static number of coins out there and a slowly growing number of collectors there is only one outcome.

Well to be honest , it's about time coins turned into an investment . Many coins were sold as investments in the mid to late seventies and even into the early eighties , most all turned out a big losers . At least in the last twenty years or so coins have not really been sold as an investment . This accounts for the healthy market we have now and not the top heavy one like they have in the states which is vulnerable to fadish swings both up and down. The only sign of this happening in the uk is the way the press has treated the kew gardens 50p and the undated 20p

No the twopence is more impressive a great big lump,1797 although it is the first penny to me is not as iconic. A 1935 crown could well be in there , even though its cheap, its a classic one off design. Anne farthings and gothic crowns are considered patterns , so although they circulated I am not sure if they count.

If it costs more than a pound to make nobody with bother to forge it. It would not be a bit earner for the government either if it cost more than a pound to make if it did it would not be very popular with anyone

Bit too much going on in there - in my opinion - very crowded they would be better off with a split issue both with two symbols from the uk

I would not value that coin as much more than £12 or so , you say lustre is still present , its not clear on the coin at all if it is or not . This is quite a common problem with some copper and bronze coins i have put many a coin on ebay and had to say that it has lustre traces but they don't show on the scan. Try getting hold of a nice coin in the £60 to £100 price bracket and trade this one in. I agree coin is gvf and lightly cleaned.

it could be of course that the person was genuine and had just realized that there local jewelry shop also stocked sovs. But the lack of contact after does not bode well for them being genuine

Sounds very suspicious Chris, if all you want is a bog standard sov and you are not bothered about the date you just go to the nearest large jewelry shop and get one for £20 over face or something. There is no really shortage of sovs around there are hundreds in every major town. If you want something special you might try a coin dealer.
