  1. hi there hello - did you know the best way to clean coins is with acetone and you could add to that a toothpick - i have always had great results using these two things both seperately and together . Acetone is a strong solvent you can pick up a bottle on ebay for around £5 . It does not harm to toneing or lustre, gets rid of gunk and dirt and allover is the perfect product to use on SOME problem coins. I am sure many users of this forum have had good results from it.....
  2. Wow you live near London. You should have no problem selling the esp if you are based near the m25
  3. If you are near a major town (London , Birmingham or manchester for instance )you might be better off listing them as a pick up only lot on Ebay. Pick a free listing day and put a reasonable reserve on them and hope a newbie collector is interested. You could always leave them at a friend or relatives house if you don't live near a major city. Just keep relisting them till you get the price you want. Other more valueable books , IE peck or freeman's books sell like hot cakes anyway . But the run of the mill stuff i.e. Spink is a bit hard to shift once out of date .
  4. yes they are lauer pieces Totally worthless to coin collectors but can you reuse them for something else?
  5. Amaryllis "Naked Lady" flowers in the Sinkyone Wilderness State Park, California Scientific classification Kingdom: Plantae Clade: Angiosperms Clade: Monocots Order: Asparagales Family: Amaryllidaceae Subfamily: Amaryllidoideae Genus: Amaryllis L. Species Amaryllis belladonna L. Amaryllis paradisicola Snijman Amaryllis (pronounced /ˌæməˈrɪlɨs/[1]) is a small genus of flowering bulbs, with two species. The better known of the two, Amaryllis belladonna, is a native of South Africa, particularly the rocky southwest region near the Cape. For many years there was confusion amongst botanists over the generic names Amaryllis and Hippeastrum, one result of which is that the common name "amaryllis" is mainly used for cultivars of the genus Hippeastrum, widely sold in the winter months for their ability to bloom indoors. Plants of the genus Amaryllis are known as belladonna lily, Jersey lily, naked lady, amarillo or, in South Africa, March lily. This is one of numerous genera with the common name "lily" due to their flower shape and growth habit. However, they are only distantly related to the true lily, from wiki Not sure if these are poisonous to cats like true lilys but to be on the safe side felix will not be sniffing any more of them. ameryllis belladonna lily does not inspire confidence in the poisionous capacity of the flower either
  6. But it's not a lily it's an amaryllis
  7. oh scott you are a tease - you must have more junk coins in your house than anyone on this forum ! But as we all know you tend to pick up lots of decent stuff as well usually for 20p. I am surprised you have never appeared on one of those programmes on tv as a compulsive hoarder.
  8. my pussy is called felix yes
  9. By the way ebay can often get you good money for even poor quality rubbish. Try selling in lots if your coins are not good enough on their own. Keep the postage down and describe the coins honestly. good luck!!!
  10. Thats great never never be afraid of selling and specializeing in what you are really drawn to. That way you dont just hoard and get a better idea where you want to go in the future
  11. No thanks. i always hope my death would involve cats or guns. Tripping over a cat ? Sounds a really boreing death to me. And by the way death was not mentioned - just something that far more pleasureable
  12. Or our members in her LOL
  13. Marina - in my eyes that conjours up a couple of things from the mid sixties. The lovely bardot inspired puppet that always came to troy tempests rescue. Or maybe just a pier that stinks of fish
  14. Oh chris your a real doubting Thomas arn't you . Even to the point of thinking she was not female...
  15. 26 years old and born in 1975 ???? Someone is telling porkies
  16. If she wants a boy Hello17 might be suitable- I suspect she might have him for breakfast though. A bit like Jordan did with Garath Gates......
  17. Looks like she would have my collection put on ebay , sold and dissappear into the night
  18. I always look at the scraped silver in a local scrap dealers stall he is at all the local collectors fairs /flea markets. The saddest thing is the silver medals from the first world war probably sold for £17.50 or so , it really was not worth selling them 10 years ago - they would have fetched a £5 note. To just hold one and think about what the holder had to do for the medal breaks your heart. £17.50? The darn things should be priceless!
  19. Americans DON'T hate slabs at all scott ,(And it's by far the biggist numismatic market in the world). It's just this tiny island over the pond (and most of europe too ), that hate the darn things
  20. VERY impressive! . Surely you could pass that off for serious money now , was the plug all silver? I have often wept at lovely coins with a hole on them- proper coin collectors consider them almost worthless.

  22. same goes with the 1895 halfpenny as well - but really i would expect the buyer to go for a more common date like 1901 they are pretty cheap
