  1. Try getting him into crowns from the sixties ,seventies and early eighties. They are really cheap and will be fun for him as well
  2. Funny enough seller does not say if it is 9 carat 18 carat or 21 carat gold - it's a bit important is it not?
  3. And that george washington probably used this as admission to a public toilet in 1776 $500 -$1500 guaranteed
  4. The seller will be so pleased with you argent NOT <<< LOL better disguise yourself now
  5. To describe this stuff as junk is doing it a favour. Think very carefully before parting with good money for this rubbish. In two hundred years time you would be lucky to get your money back off this pile of c**p Invest in bullion pennies for their bronze content or scrap silver but not this
  6. i was lucky enough to get around £20 for one of these once - there a few avid collectors around , They are always brass never silver or gold
  7. Found in the woods - obviously an early example of a "hedge" fund
  8. "puppet" government - kind of reminds you about the lib dems Or should that be muppet
  9. Oh by the way the american's love these and they can sometimes go for silly prices on ebay
  10. IMHO almost certainly a fake - it was almost certainly surposed to be less heavy than it actually is, but looks very much like a fake as well look at the crude brittania
  11. Did you know that a tax on soap was a major earner for the government for many years, earning as much as 10% of all government revenue until it's abolition in 1853. To raise a similar amount now tax on soap would have to be around £100 a bar based on an average consumption of ten bars a year by the average person. This also assumes that usage does not go down with people using fairy liquid or other related products instead of soap
  12. Sorry there i mean the part of colin cookes site dedicated to sold collections. Colin's own collection and the nicholson collection of halfpennies are the best reference for us coin collectors, but the other collections are also superb reference works as well.
  13. Colin's site has the POTENTIAL to be totally fantastic but at the moment it's going very slow , pity he cannot find a load of spare time , and i surpose a little spare cash would help a lot as well.
  14. What are the 1863 varieties? I must check mine out. Dot under lighthouse Do you have any pictures? There was one in the colin cooke collection 2006- It is still on the website even 6 years after colins death - A fantastic tribute to him and probably there for good - even more useful than colin's site (sorry colin) Sorry it's also on colins site as well but the coin ain't as nice It's not very clear in the pics on both sites but when you get a dot under lighthouse coin in the hand it's very obvious . (I have seen at least 3)

  17. This coin is for the seriously rich unfortunately
  18. Point out the pitfalls and suddenly silence reigns!
  19. You could send it by special delivery to all the owners so they could enjoy it in their collections for a week or so - it would end up very expensive though and the person drawn to receive it last would always wondering if it will go missing somewhere along the way .
  20. Funny enough and thinking about it the three rarest bronze farthings 1863 ,1875 and 1876 H have quite a few varieties between them . Some only discovered recently. Maybe someone or something just wants it to be really hard to get a full set !
  21. Funny enough the coin pictured on your website ,colin as high 6 is in almost identical condition to mine . I grade as fine or so
  22. I see on the freeman rarity scale that only one in a hundred or so 1876 H farthings are the large 6 variety possibly even less this being the case I think it is seriously underrated. 1876 H farthings are quite scarce (esp in VF and above)and they remain with 1863 and 1875 as the key dates in the bronze series We all know freemans rarity scale is often wrong, but not usually by much and as it is just an intelligent guess really. How many have you seen please colin? I am pretty sure it will not have been many.
  23. I must say as well idiot buyers don't just bother with ebay they also attend auctions as well - when a coin in a major l London auction house goes for a fantastic price (due to two buyers wanting the same coin ,just like on ebay) , these forums are abuzz with Wow did you see that auction result, etc. Common sense is not (often) a factor when two dedicated buyer want something
  24. Strangely enough colin cooke never had an example in his collection . I am sure it would have done the variety good if he had
  25. It is large high 6 ,and like you say I am sure the guides are out on their prices on this one - in fact the best price guide of all is complated listings on ebay. Maybe ebay should employ a few profesional graders and produce a guide. i looked at compleated listings under 1876 farthing and as usual no large 6 coins are there :(
