A 1902 halfpenny in around mint state should have a lot of appeal to a type set collector. This might account for some of the silly prices offered. But if you just wait and are prepared to be outbid a few times you should get a nice one on the bay for £40 - £70 depending on it's grade and if anyone else wants it.

Avoid the london mint office like the plague unless you want to buy unsellable crap.

You would need nad's like a bull and a brain the size of a pea if you hope to make a profit out of anything the london mint office sell. LOL I do know they sell a mean plastic gold plated ingot

Try getting him into crowns from the sixties ,seventies and early eighties. They are really cheap and will be fun for him as well

IMHO almost certainly a fake - it was almost certainly surposed to be less heavy than it actually is, but looks very much like a fake as well look at the crude brittania

Did you know that a tax on soap was a major earner for the government for many years, earning as much as 10% of all government revenue until it's abolition in 1853. To raise a similar amount now tax on soap would have to be around £100 a bar based on an average consumption of ten bars a year by the average person. Sorry there i mean the part of colin cookes site dedicated to sold collections. Colin's own collection and the nicholson collection of halfpennies are the best reference for us coin collectors, but the other collections are also superb reference works as well.

Colin's site has the POTENTIAL to be totally fantastic but at the moment it's going very slow , pity he cannot find a load of spare time , and i surpose a little spare cash would help a lot as well.

There was one in the colin cooke collection 2006- It is still on the website even 6 years after colins death - A fantastic tribute to him and probably there for good - even more useful than colin's site (sorry colin) Sorry it's also on colins site as well but the coin ain't as nice It's not very clear in the pics on both sites but when you get a dot under lighthouse coin in the hand it's very obvious . (I have seen at least 3)

You could send it by special delivery to all the owners so they could enjoy it in their collections for a week or so - it would end up very expensive though and the person drawn to receive it last would always wondering if it will go missing somewhere along the way .

Funny enough and thinking about it the three rarest bronze farthings 1863 ,1875 and 1876 H have quite a few varieties between them . Some only discovered recently. Maybe someone or something just wants it to be really hard to get a full set !

Funny enough the coin pictured on your website ,colin as high 6 is in almost identical condition to mine . I grade as fine or so

I see on the freeman rarity scale that only one in a hundred or so 1876 H farthings are the large 6 variety possibly even less this being the case I think it is seriously underrated. 1876 H farthings are quite scarce (esp in VF and above)and they remain with 1863 and 1875 as the key dates in the bronze series We all know freemans rarity scale is often wrong, but not usually by much and as it is just an intelligent guess really. How many have you seen please colin? I am pretty sure it will not have been many.
