  1. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Henry-Silver-Hammered-Metal-Detecting-Find/292287951882 ? His feedbacks worse than his photography.
  2. Ahhh. I forgotten. I thought it was auction. I might just slab a few of mine if there pulling in around that mark ?
  3. Any ideas what it eventually sold for? I can't find it now.
  4. That's probably an accurate description of what would happen unfortunately. I am sure there was a case in hackney years ago where a jar of gold coins was buried during the blitz. The family took a direct hit in the anderson shelter and all died. The coins where dug out of a rockery in 2007 and ended up being returned to the decendants of the family in Israel. But obviously that case involved an honest finder.Google the Hackney Hoard.
  5. Probably handed down the trade to his son. It was fairly common then.
  6. Night hawking someone's lawn ?. Seriously though they could of been from an ancient hoard. Years ago there wasn't much of a market for old coins and somebody may have ploughed them out and just bunged them in a jar. The suspense of not knowing would haunt me for the rest of my days. What if..... I got told a story years ago and given a map of where some rhodium or platinum bars were buried. This old guy told me had apparently stolen them out of second world war search lights he said and buried them at this location. Turned up shovel and detector in hand there was a motorway right over the top of it. ?
  7. The future of collecting as we know it is coming to an end. I've only been buying hammered recently as it's the only thing i can be certain of in myself that it's real. I'd struggle to ID some of these new milled reproductions. I did hope one day that my young son would take up the hobby but I think now if this trend continues I'll sway him to save him losing out in the future. It's becoming a lottery.
  8. Good idea. eBay's worst offerings occasionally runs off topic. If we use this thread to specifically show copies / replicas it's less likely to get lost in amongst other things.
  9. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/edward-1-111-style-hammered-coin/302477504577 seller notes "good con"
  10. Nice find ?. I love these twin profile coins.
  11. I've had a brief look using Google for other images of similar reverses but drawn a blank. Its a 1a4 of Fil Aimer....Ahh i see what you mean now , yes the cross is doubled on that side so its just that portion. I need to sort out some reading glasses lol. I've been missing a lot of things recently ?
  12. ?Thanks was curious. See what you mean now looks like an A under the O. Not unusual i agree. Dark workshops , literacy etc.
  13. Whats happened here. I was photographing some of my coins earlier and spotted this which i never noticed til before. Is it a double strike or a die sinking error. Its supposed to be a letter R.
  14. Sorry I wasn't being funny and it wasn't meant as an insult. I can see it is a rare coin. I wasn't aware of how much they go for.
  15. Looks fine mate. The obverse may have put people off it. Alot of collector's of milled coins want them perfect. Look at this , unsold because of the mark above the head. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1663-Charles-II-Shilling/322785002302
  16. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162695896234 These are coming from museum reproductions in Runcorn. Seen two of these sell earlier in the year as genuine. I got a further third one pulled. One went for £250. Reported it. Please follow suit , this will likely sell for over £200 if we can't get it pulled. http://www.museumreproductions.co.uk/shop/viewitem.php?productid=466
  17. As Rob says hartlebury is not a castle. Its a manor. The welsh marches is littered with ruined castles. The Normans started that up and it continued for many centuries.
  18. Could HC be dare i say it , Half Crown.
  19. I saw those as they popped up on Sunday. Museum quality some of them. That's a fine collection he's got there. I was in awe of that HII Fil Aimer. Puts my one to shame.
  20. I think it was 2014/15. Google it. Everbody seems to be raving about it. I like it. He's a good guy. Fairly approachable and happy to help out if you need advice also.
  21. Thanks. It's a fairly recent book on the short cross series. Think it's on Amazon. Pretty good book for identifying them and classifying them.
  22. We were both correct Rob. I mailed it to Gerry Slevin just before. He's confirmed it as a 5b3/5c mule. I missed the pellet in the S which ties it down to 5b3 on the obverse. He's going to feature it in his next edition of Short Cross Legends.
  23. Thanks Rob. Its an oddity. I'll mark it as a 5b/5c and make further enquiries. Just realised also i misread NORV its NORY.
  24. Picked this up today as an unknown class of John. Got me slightly puzzled at what class it is. The reverse reads Iohan.on.norv which would correspond with class 5c the last class struck at Norwich before its closure in 1207. The obverse looks like a 5b though. Would i be right in assuming this is a mule?
  25. We forgot the farthings. They are left facing portrait also. ?
