Another one bites the dust. Good work guys. ?
-
Quite true. Good analysis. Considering how unpopular Charles was it is odd that many coins of his do not turn up defaced. I figured with James it was Catholics or people who were anti scottish that defaced them. I've seen a few crossed out of his. That ones got peck marks also like someone's took a stab at him. Your right also about it being early issues. The others I've seen are all 1603-1605. Thistle & Lis mm.

Has anybody got any hammereds that have been deliberately damaged or defaced? I dug this one a few years ago. I've seen quite a few more since of James I that have been defaced in a similiar manner. Occasionally Commonwealth coins pop up in bad shape also with graffiti.
-
Aye i hear ya. Its just me. I got so cheesed off digging rusty nails and horse shoes and cuts of rusty barb wire on the earlier machines i don't bother with it anymore.
-
I have the Euroace which is under the 400. There is a feature on mine where you can stop the machine alerting you to any iron objects. You can see the machine flash it up on the display but it makes no alert tone. I just use that rather than dig iron . I do occasionally run the machine in all modes but it can go mental on some fields that are trashy with iron junk.

Reported ! Seems to be a fairly new tactic of scamsters. Damage / falsely age replicas to make them less obvious to some.
-
Thanks guys. He previously referred to them as old crap in boxes i think it was. A fairly accurate description. Last time they were in a bag then a box in his garden. I did notice he never gave nor recieved feedback for the last two that i assume went on to sell. Maybe the buyer pulled out. There was a few false bids put in that where withdrawn to warn others i assumed. Lets hope eBay pull this one!

He's back again with more crap. I emailed him previously when he was selling the WRL Eddy 1st groat and John shortcross replicas. Please report them ! Not sure if they are all replicas but the groat is i can see the WRL stamp on it. Perhaps this is a new tactic to confuse buyers , lace it with a few low value genuine coins. I suspect they are all fake though and he's deliberately damaged them. The shortcross ones look to have the same moneyer as the WRL ones (Simond) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122636948835

I discriminate the iron out on mine completely. Old horeshoes and nails. I did my share of digging those in the 70s / 80s with an old c-scope. Completely turned me off detecting altogether that did. Took me 25 years to give it another go.

Lovingly buffed up with an angle grinder perhaps. Must of run out of brasso! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132287507999

Frustrating ?. I reported that about 3 times. Be thankful we are wise enough to know better. Maybe the buyer will be though i doubt it. It was screaming replica all over even without the heart stamp.
-
Same here. Reported it again. That description is still misleading. I urge others to do the same we may get it pulled again , hopefully ?

? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292204572795 Look at his other listings. Almost everything is a metal detecting find. The description on his " mediaeval gaming coin" is hilarious. His feedbacks diabolical also. Why would anyone buy anything from somebody like that. Smh!
-
I am adding that guy to my favourite sellers list. That way when he lists his junk it will show in my feed and i can post it here ? There's sure to be more crap to follow from him.

Try this website it may be of some use. http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/pages/Long-Cross-Pennies/Long%20Cross%20Pennies%20P1.htm

Well spotted John. Just looked at his feedback. He's sold another 3 equally foul looking things.
-
Thanks for that. Never thought of that. Makes sense. Thats a more likely scenario for an overdate. ?
-
Ugly thing ain't it. Never seen one so bad. Reported it! ?
-
Your welcome.

Overdates and die sinkers errors i think they are called are not terrible unusual. I've a few hammered with letters over letters. Not sure if it adds value to them. I asked a similar question years ago on another forum and was told it happens , sometimes people where working under candle light in low natural light environments so mistakes could be made , add in illiteracy and possibly a few beers to the mix and mistakes are bound to occur. I've a few early milled also with overdates (James II). One of mine. Letter under the A in Cantor.

2017 New Britannia.....
Ukstu replied to VickySilver's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Precisely the reason why i don't collect modern coins. Thats hideous. Bolts of lightening shooting out her backside while she craps on wales. That small island appears to be a cloud of gas escaping from her backside which is shaped like a childs drawing of a cock and balls. Whats she reaching round for? Toilet paper ? -
Nearly as bad as those Andorra coins that one. Reported it also. Appears to be the guy selling one of those dodgy sixpences. Definitely aware of his actions , no mistakes.
-
I reported that one a few days ago. Thanks hibernianscribe for getting rid of that one. I used to email sellers myself but got threatened so i just report them now. If i spot anymore I'll post them up. Seems to be alot lately of this type , last month it was the Henry VIII groats.
-
Seeing on average two or three coming up each day now which isn't a bad thing as people will be getting wary now. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hammered-Silver-COIN-1562-Elizabeth-1st-SIXPENCE/302402867730

I did abit in the past. Nothing recently though , my permissions gone. Shame about your shilling. I suppose the further you get from London the more beat up a hammered must be if it was minted at the tower. Your shilling must of passed through alot of hands before it entered the ground. My sixpence was wedged between some cobbles that where buried about 9 inches down, seemed to have preserved it well. Old cobble road i presume it was.
