Paddy Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 (edited) Took me a while to find more info on Book 3 - Tickets and Passes. A very niche topic and not for me I think. I'm sure I would find it interesting, and I suspect I have had a few goodies through my hands in the past, which I would enjoy looking up, but I am not collecting or buying in that area now. I have Book 2 - Unofficial Farthings - and have rarely used it. PS. By the way, if anyone is looking for a cheap copy of Book 1, there is one coming up at auction at Whitton & Laing in Exeter on Friday. Edited September 21, 2024 by Paddy Added PS Quote

secret santa Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 I've just checked and it appears that they have taken the photos either from my website or the Royal Mint Museum as it's clearly the same coin ! https://rarestpennies.wordpress.com/1933-f786-pattern/ Quote
DaveG38 Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Certainly, this purports to be one of the Lavrillier coins. What I don't get is why anybody would try and 'sell' this coin on ebay, even at the price of £86k. Given that ebay now withholds payments until the transaction is complete, they are not going to release this amount to the seller, just like that. Once it becomes clear that this is a con, it will be cancelled and the seller has failed. All I can think is that the seller, with an amazing feedback of 3, has no idea that they don't get their money immediately. Quote
terrysoldpennies Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 And with top security postage of £1.65 😂 Quote

I think it might be a new eBay thing? I had a coin in my eBay watch list and knew the seller’s business details (he would pay fees on eBay). I eventually decided I wanted it and offered a lesser amount for an off-eBay deal. He ended the item on eBay, which then sat in my ‘ended items’ for a while before disappearing without trace, like it was never listed on eBay…I’ve never seen that before? Quote

I wish eBay did this more often, it seems >50% of the Anglo-Saxon 'coins' on eBay these days are fake, and reports go unheeded. Just look at this chancer's listings...! 15 years or so ago eBay used to have the 'Trusted Members Program' where reports from those members were classified differently and action often taken. Guess things change. 1 Quote
