  1. Yes but as i have edited the post (at the same time) since Mike the 7 may well be closer to the 9 but still the same full width πŸ™‚
  2. I think Mike and sorry if i am wrong that you are saying you may be able to tell the difference by the date width. If so then maybe a look in Gouby will help you. He has F96 as 12-5 teeth and F97 variety BP1879Bd also as 12-5 teeth. The F97 the most common one has widths of 11,11-5 ,12, 12-5 teeth............So Yes F96 the type can be determined by the width of the date as is only 12-5 teeth. Atleast it is one indicator. The only other is F98 your new one 9 teeth πŸ˜‰ Edited ..........Sorry reading again you mean the 9 being closer to the 7...May well be πŸ™‚
  3. Hi Bob and welcome. The search box (top right on the front page)is invaluable. There are no doubt lots of questions you wish to ask ,of which the majority will have been asked before. i.e. Coin storage , magnifier ,scales etc. To see things rather than pictures and to get the right answers maybe visit a coin show. You may even end up buying a coin that you like the look of after seeing one in hand. Please BEWARE though as from then on you are a fully fledged member of the....Coin addict association. Enjoy it and dont buy to much Rang from ebay πŸ™‚ Pete.
  4. I am with Jon on this one and think he describes it well.......A round shiny thing πŸ™‚
  5. A Known variety but scarce....... 1854 Penny with DOT below the I in Victoria. CGS 70. Its similar to the Gouby BP1875Cd.. The CGS price is Β£150. Β£100 Posted Special delivery. Pete.
  6. I think its just the one auctioneer at DNW ,i have never heard anyone else say it.Sometimes when DNW use someone else they dont say it either.
  7. Sorry Mike i dont even know anyone called Gary πŸ˜‚ my heads whirling with the medication. He just opened at Β£700 , the hammer went down and the auctioneer said " Hat off Mike "
  8. I was thinking / hoping it was your bid Gary when it opened as there wasnt any other bids. Always nice to get one (especially a good one) that you have wanted a while πŸ™‚ Hat Off.
  9. I often wonder what WOOD means as the auctioneer today always says it . The F14 was noticed and the F6a proof opened without a bid which makes me think others didnt think it was either ,maybe i was wrong and they even put it on the front cover. Always another day and hope if anyone bought anything they were happy with the price or to tick one off a list πŸ™‚
  10. Peck.....PM me your address as you can have mine now i have read it πŸ™‚
  11. Would it not just be better to buy ones that are ok in the first place ?.
  12. Thought it better to show the picture of the reverse for anyone that might be interested as unrecorded.
  13. Thanks Mike πŸ™‚ The reason for me buying the Lot though was the one top left is the scarce one. The REV is different than any other year and one sold last week in LCA for Β£2600+ premium. its now on Richards site as a pattern with NO Colon after REG ,the sheild ,leaves ,stem and other differences. Not many about so was really happy to spot this one and was able to get rid of the others to help cover the cost.
  14. https://www.dnw.co.uk/auction-archive/lot-archive/lot.php?department=Coins&lot_id=311875 I was lucky to find this Lot at DNW a few months ago πŸ™‚ If you get bored maybe have a look as one is scarce and dont think many spotted it on the day. Pete.
  15. Its were a penny collector lives Jerry who buys all the scarce / rare ones.
  16. Thats why i thought it was a 6 πŸ˜‚ i thought it was an 1858 W.W..............Even nicer then than i first thought. Hat off and a good buy , so an 1856 OT Scarce coin in that grade.
  17. Top record...I dont think Terry could be bothered being there in Holland. it was him Joking who said "i think we sold twelve copies here in Holland "....Not sure if the crowd knew what he was singing about πŸ˜‚
  18. Terry Hall.....Quality lyrics and sold twelve copies☺️
  19. Yes that is nice .........struggling to see the date properly on a small picture but is it an 8/6 ?. Any chance of a bigger picture of the OBV or DATE ☺️
  20. Yes i bet the neighbours are loving me......Nobody seems to be joining in though πŸ˜‚
  21. This brings back memories 40 years ago and the last couple of minutes......you have to laugh πŸ˜‚
  22. Thats a coincidence Michael i had some joy division and new order tracks on a couple of hours ago 😊
  23. People send hundreds to the Royal mint ,mostly sent by non coin collectors and nearly all errors or atleast the sender thinks they are. Due to the fact it is F.O.C. the sender feels they have nothing to lose and the letter they return the coin with making it easier to sell unless its crap. I believe they do now offer a service of which you pay (probably due to all the crap they get ) to authenticate I.e. 1905 half crown. Although the problem i feel with this is they dont photograph the coin ,meaning that when you sell it there is still nothing to prove it is the coin desribed. Sorry i have not got a clue what the RM use ,although probably just have an employee who is experienced enough to have been given the job . Coins are submitted to grading companies of which they also photograph ,seal etc.The royal mint obviously know this and doubt its a big enough market for them to set up a department specifficly just to authorise coins. Not everyone has the knowledge or any real interest in coins......So they just ask someone to have a look for them and confirm in writing or plastic. I think the best way to get your answer would be to phone them up or send one 😊
  24. In fairness to Oswald he did put the link in...Nothing to do with coins thread 😊
  25. I go off the raised thicker letters if worn ,definately not F98 though Jon as that is the really narrow (close) date.
