PWA 1967

I purchased this as was in an Auction (Part LOT) described as Doubled 9,4 & 5. Sent to CGS as at the time i hadnt seen another and was a decent grade (CGS graded UNC) ,the coin is alot darker than appears in the picture. Anyway i didnt query the attribution due to it being rejected and they graded as just a doubled 9 which IMO i am sure it isnt,although if its any use to someone and your not happy i will pay the return postage. Its not in a plastic slab (just a flip with the sticker on ) and can mail the picture of the OBV if anyone is interested. £25 Posted. Pete.

Its a nice coin Peck.The hardest place to remove anything from is between the teeth ,so maybe at some time in its life someone has already tried andI would just leave it as it is. I believe years ago they put some white rubber glue on the teeth untill it set hoping that peeling it off would remove most 😂

I think the thief will of been just as negged out as the owner when he opened the box , hopefully the owner got his insurance which would perhaps of been more than the true value and more use to the family. Why on earth they put this on the news weeks later makes me think not much goes on in Plymouth 😉

Yes i believe you Peck 😊 just me thinking out loud and not having a clue that if a coin was made up of 45% Copper for one year it may be that some are a different colour. Will just call it toning

I just went off Eric mentioning proof and the top of the page saying it was also ,maybe i got that bit confused 😉 The colour maybe more along the lines of the metal mix and the reason sometimes you see tiny flecks of verd that have got into the metal. On Michael goubys website he says...... "different mixes were tried for silver coins from 1920 and again in 1922" The mix for 1920 being Half silver and half Cupro nickel.......The cupro nickel being 90% copper and 10% Nickel. Maybe i am way off the mark ............... on his website he does go into more detail on other years. Pete. Some of this probably does not make sense now you have edited your post Mike 😂

Maybe the metal mix for proofs was different allowing for a better strike and the reason for the colour.Not collecting silver i dont have a clue but was told that some 1920 Florins have a higher silver content and although much scarcer these tend to have a much better strike. Perhaps none of it is correct and someone may correct me saying its wrong 😊

I found that using either petrol or acetone will dissolve/remove anything on the coin and when left to dry will leave a whitish waxy looking area in places.this can be seen more clearly the more residue that was on in the first place.Using distilled water straight after putting anything on should help remove it more thoroughly ,put the coin in the water in a plastic tub,swish it around for a minute then pat dry with a lint free cloth. Better not to do anything in the first place but if the coin is already ruined it cant really appear much worse regardless of what you do 😉 Everyone uses different methods including three in one oil for silver which if only a tiny amount may help. I would think most of the years you mention you can pick up cheaply ,so maybe worth just replacing them before spending a few quid on cleaning stuff .

I know that auction houses may wish to set a low estimate to generate interest but a recent sale i have just been reading about (coin news) must of put a smile on the sellers face. An elderley lady whos husband had passed away took some banknotes wrapped in tissue paper to Tring market auction based in Hertfordshire. The late husband had been given the notes years earlier. Auction estimate was set at £500-700. Quite a lot of interest as they sold due to the specimen notes for...........£205,000.00 😮. I bet the lady enjoyed a drink that night 😂

Yes unfortunately i think it will be correct ,although yes the fees are high 😊 The commision of 20% plus if you convert to english pounds the £70 for the other bits and pieces. I think looking in Australia you dont have to pay any customs ,although i may be wrong and that would of bumped it up even more. I am sure the amount to pay will be broken down and will be exactly what it says in there terms. Unfortunately you will just have to pay them and one of those lessons most of us have learned at some point.
