  1. Do you agree with me that the 'star' is just too large? It even breaks the inner circle! Could it be, following the 'Sede Vacante' period of 1529-30, they just used the unmarked pennies (S2353) and added the initials and the mint mark later? (though how they'd manage to do that escapes me)
  2. The Star mint mark still bothers me! It is just too large. It would seem to have been added later, though for the life of me, I can't think of a valid reason they would deface the original mark and you would expect a late addition to be incused.
  3. Does it have colon stops on the reverse, in place of normal stops? One of the deciding features in North. The large curve for hair would indicate 4B, the drapery curve dissapearing into the beaded circle also points to this. (But I'm always open to contradiction on hammered, as the more you read, the less you seem to know!!)
  4. Where are all the Hammered collectors? No-one have any thoughts on this coin - I'm just interested
  5. I see what you mean! But it seems to be over large, if you check the picture in Spinks, you'll see what I mean. Perhaps a late addition or to obliterate another mark? Many of these marks were used by the minter for their own purposes. What do other members think?
  6. Yep! I'd say Second coinage (1526-44) of Bishop Tunstall (Durham) Spinks S2354 or North 1813. A commoner type. Nice condition though!
  7. Have you guys seen this? Treasure galore
  8. My tiny voice is still crying "Who grades the graders?"
  9. Feedback from sellers may be withheld for a ligitimate reason , but some NEVER send feedback. Luckily it doesn't seem t affect the standard of the buyer, but annoying nevertheless.
  10. I'm jealous! Wonderful coins, great site. Thanks! (it is quiet, isn't it?)
  11. "In a perfect world we would only have Queens of our countries, and they would all look like this:" Do you think we could get a law past to make it come true? Now I have another vision in my head - and I feel much better!
  12. Now you've spoilt my day! I cannot get the vision of King Gordon Brown on my money out of my head!
  13. Lucky Devil! This lot are hell bent on banning this sort of pomp and ceremony and we'll be a lot smaller when it happens. I can remember Empire Day at school and the gift of mugs and sweets and the pride of even the smallest in the school. All gone and a dirty word now. We grow gradually smaller as a nation and lots of people rejoice in it. To see some of it at first hand must be really memorable.
  14. Tick Boxes?? Are we turning into a version of twitchers? Does seeing a coin in a museum count?
  15. How about the coins in the gallery? You can use mine
  16. Some more pictures. I couldn't take them down, so had to take pictures at angles to omit reflections. This could get addictive! But I don't think there will be more (except for the weekly drawing class).
  17. Just don't open it!
  18. I've added two pictures from my re-newed drawing class, just to satisfy the desire for nudes! First week, I'll add another couple each week while the classes are in progress and you can see what progress (or lack) I make I've put a direct link below!
  19. I take it that remark was tongue in cheek?
  20. It has one thing going for it over Numismatics - a pencil and a piece of paper is a hell of a site cheaper
  21. I can think of a few people he could do that to for me!
  22. Although I'm not a "modern" collector, I am impressed. Quite a collection!
  23. Great stuff! I think we may have opened a pandoras box here! Any more scribblers and daubers out there? As long as they don't overload Chris's site (we'll get kicked off)!! The use of an intermediate site - like Photobucket - will take the strain (and, no, I don't have shares in that site )
  24. Nice style! I'm a bit more staid! I do have a few nude drawings, but I'd much rather draw older people - with character!
