  1. Correct! I have a couple more from the York mint but they are so bad that you cannot make out the reign!
  2. I can only offer two very poor examples. Edward III Archbishop Thoresby of York c1361. Thin flan and weak strike not enhanced by being buried in some sort of acid soil! http://www.predecimal.com/forum/uploads/11..._226_3_9917.jpg http://www.predecimal.com/forum/uploads/11..._226_3_1899.jpg And, of course, Henry VII Archbishop Rotherham of York c1500 ( split in the post - it was bent before dispatch!) http://www.predecimal.com/forum/uploads/11..._226_3_2210.jpg http://www.predecimal.com/forum/uploads/11...226_3_10043.jpg I haven't discovered a better way to post images!
  3. As a 'careless fingered' typist I use the edit feature regularly and have no problem with "drop out"
  4. Welcome Aiden! I agree your website it rather overwhelming. A little simplification may attract more contributers. I'll be viewing it on a regular basis. Good luck withit!
  5. OK! Anyone any idea what this is about? The coin has had 2 bidders, both from the same person and both for 0.01p! I don't think that will push up the bidding by much http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hammered-Silver-Coin...1QQcmdZViewItem And do you think the same as me? This decidedly looks cast and in pewter but that could be the old cynic in me http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...mMakeTrack=true
  6. Someone at the RM will be in trouble over that!
  7. Having tried (and failed) to read 15th century English, I think the standardisation was a good thing. Everyone using their own spelling would just cause dangerous misunderstandings. Lets face it, disputes and even wars have resulted from incorrect interpretations. I have great trouble with this terrible 'Text Speak' - but then I'm old!
  8. I have a Whitman folder for the Statehood Quarters (I have friends in the states that supply me with them from circulation.) This folder has two plasic inserts that cover the front and back of each coin. While not protecting from atmosphere at least they are protected from Fingerprints!! - and maybe the card of the folder.

It's not lead is it? If it could be, or billion, then I'd suggest a "Mereaux" or church token. I'm busy researching one at the moment. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them on Omnicoin! (mine's lead though) http://www.omnicoin.com/display_img.aspx?image=Image1
  10. Nice results all round, Oli. Congratulations! Keep it up when you enter this big bad world of work and, hey!, you could wind up in charge of the country! I'd vote for you!!
  11. Honestly! How do they get away with it! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/not-rare-50-pence-pi...1QQcmdZViewItem
  12. It's OK! It's quite legal. My wife is hooked on the smell of new books. When I get my new Coin Magazine or any new coin books, she just has to fan the pages and inhale her kick!
  13. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1377-99-Richard-II-S...1QQcmdZViewItem This guy can't read!
  14. I have the same Spanish coin from a batch of detector finds bought on ebay (I wanted one particular coin) They were mostly in poor condition and the half real very worn. Also in the batch was a fragment of a Venetian coin. This is why I said that Medieval populace couldn't have been too fussy about the origin of their currency. Having said that, I was reading on a coin website (can't remember which!) about the money handed over during a card game in one of the Sharpe episodes and the information was that currency at the time was accepted from any country - people were still not fussy as to origin!
  15. Hijacking accounts is happening. It happened to me. Though Ebay shut down my account before any damage was done! That is apart from the hassle of having to open a new account with a different name and opening a new Ebay address. I always thought that bank transfers were the dodgiest method?
  16. Beautiful! I hope you've got her hooked on numismatics - or there could be trouble ahead!!
  17. Don't worry! If I get an authoritarian identification I'll post it on the forum!
  18. Congratulations! Nice collection
  19. I make it Spain Ferdinand 1455 Half real In circulation in England along with Flemish and French hammered coins. I assume the vast majority of the population was not too fussy about their coins, as long as they were silver!
  20. A dangerous statement Tom! It covers centuries of numismatics! The one I use in my avatar is still a challenge to all and sundry! I've sent it to the Coin News and am waiting with bated breath for a reply!!!
  21. At my age, I deliberately forget birthdays - so I've forgotten yours too! Don't get too high!
  22. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/saxon-50p-coin-great...1QQcmdZViewItem Nice description!
  23. To me, artificial colouring is no different to the practice of enamelling coins. It hurts when the subject is one that you'ld give your eye teeth for in 'normal' condition. But I suppose we must admit that "each to his own" although messing about with coins is, in reality, messing with a small piece of history.
