  1. I make it Spain Ferdinand 1455 Half real In circulation in England along with Flemish and French hammered coins. I assume the vast majority of the population was not too fussy about their coins, as long as they were silver!
  2. A dangerous statement Tom! It covers centuries of numismatics! The one I use in my avatar is still a challenge to all and sundry! I've sent it to the Coin News and am waiting with bated breath for a reply!!!
  3. At my age, I deliberately forget birthdays - so I've forgotten yours too! Don't get too high!
  4. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/saxon-50p-coin-great...1QQcmdZViewItem Nice description!
  5. To me, artificial colouring is no different to the practice of enamelling coins. It hurts when the subject is one that you'ld give your eye teeth for in 'normal' condition. But I suppose we must admit that "each to his own" although messing about with coins is, in reality, messing with a small piece of history.
  6. I'm not a milled collector, but I've noticed, on Coinpeople, the fixation with "pretty" patenas., and I've been convinced that the colours are more due to chemicals than time!
  7. As you obviously have Spinks, try looking at the Henry II "Tealby" issues and you'll see the problem.
  8. Any forecast on publication for the book, Chris? Could you send me one when it apears? (I'm fed up trying to get Smiths to stock Coin books)
  9. Grading milled seems to be more of a science than hammered, the latter being VERY subjective. I disagree with most dealers on hammered and wonder how much they would alter their opinion should they be buying from you! Experience is the only sure teacher, but it will probably involve a certain amount of mistakes, some even expensive!
  10. Looking good Chris, but I'd rather wait for the printed version, just to compliment my library!
  11. Can't wait for the next scam! This is exciting!
  12. I'd guessed as much, but I've put one in my £2 series as a talking point! I wonder if I could start a rumour that 1992 10p's are REALLY RARE. I think I can lay my hands on a few!
  13. http://i1.ebayimg.com/04/i/07/2b/68/a0_1_b.JPG 1997 £2. Am I missing something here? I keep getting these things in my change>
  14. Ten pound of pennies?
  15. Wait until bending down becomes a major event! Then you'll know why Slip-ons were invented!
  16. Had a quick look at all books. High standard as usual. I like the new covers!
  17. It was a modern handgrenade (not the old pineapple) So that places it firmly in the last 50 or so years. The shape is not really an age indication. Wish i could find the picture for you, but no success yet.
  18. It didn't work, though! Hence your coin!
  19. All I can say is that it was 50p shaped and the seller described it as 50p, but that doesn't mean much! I think it was a token of sorts.
  20. Yep! Definitely getting old! You've lost your "off"!
  21. Welcome Joe! Saw a peculiar 50p on ebay last week. It was obiously a pattern or medal, but had a handgrenade motif! Unfortunately it must have been bought, as a quick scan reveals it's now gone! Know anything about it?
  22. You know you're old when you stop wearing lace up shoes
