  1. That is a good question. All i can say is that Spink shows the ornamental trident prices to be slightly higher than the plain trident prices. So i guess that it is there opinion or findings.
  2. I sg I just don't like the look of this coin, not quite right and looks too clean imo.
  3. I think that he was blind at the end too, so he never got to see his new coinage.
  4. No worries, i still enjoyed reading that other discussion, and it looks a bit like the tail of a 9 (or small 9) on the Cp1858G imo, but more like part of a 1 or 7 to the right. Makes no sense, unless it is a double overstrike.
  5. It certainly does. I have an 1863 penny, and from one angle it looks like an open 3, but not from other angles.
  6. Thanks Richard, definitely a trick of the light with the first pic.
  7. Interesting, thanks Alfnail. But the bottom right inside corner of the second 8 does seem to have a straight line at an angle of about 30 degrees from vertical. Tbh, it is the p1496 from a certain website that we like.😁
  8. This coin looks like an 8/7. Do you agree folks?
  9. Interestingly, the fees on Easylive are 17% + VAT, so 20.4%, not the usual 17% including VAT. Nice that they are on the site though, thanks Paddy.
  10. Indeed it is, but at least the reverse is decent.
  11. Very pleased with this 1919kn that i just received. Not my pics, but they are spot on.
  12. I think that there will be a lot of bargains and a lot of unsold lots. Hopefully some coins that i/us here, want to buy.
  13. They are accepting lots up to the 8th May, so the catalogue will be a few days after that date i guess.
  14. Hi Weaver. Maybe M J Hughes? They seem to show that they take scrap coins on their website.
  15. Well spotted Richard, it certainly looks possible.
  16. You would have to be a complete fool to not know the size of a coin that you were buying for £50000+ , but it might have happened at some time, who knows?
  17. As John Cleese said on Monty Python "It makes me mad"
  18. Two very nice florins MJ. It must be at least a 63 grade for your 1860 i expect too.
  19. I agree Rob. The toning on the reverse is very nice. It would look much better if they had just left the toning on the obverse. Grade ef/gef imo.
  20. I have just realised that i was looking at a different auction for patterns. But if you go to search 'Pattern shilling 1887' and look at the Christies.com result, it is there. Also the link above it 'The Mitchell-David Collection' is the one with all the gold patterns that i mentioned. Sorry, i am no good at easy links.
  21. Both available from Amazon at a very good price.
  22. Correct me if i am wrong (again), but is that really a proof for under £200?
  23. A proof with a 1/1 nice. That must be worth a premium.
  24. I looked at that auction archive. The patterns that were sold that day were incredible. Gold pennies galore.
  25. Brexit? I had forgot all about that for some reason. Not seen a Brexit 50p in my change yet.
