  1. This is one of the reproduction 1933 pennies sold by Dirkin49 for £3.59. Good price for a repro. gap filler. Note the wrong serifs on letters and the "additional" wave under Britannia's toes.

  2. For me there would always be the element of doubt - mintmarks are one of those tiny areas that are prone to die fill.

  5. Its a coin of John. Class 5a2 PERES .ON.DVRE. (Pieres durham) Has the reversed S on the reverse. Hes the only moneyer i can match to that reversed S at the end of his name. He also has the stop after HENRI in 5a2 coins.

  6. Sorry about the size and quality of pics but, comparing the obverse of the "fake" against the real thing, the fake has 10 teeth across the width of REX whereas the real thing has 11 teeth.

  7. Great discussion, I agree. Some really important considerations raised and debated. I've come to the conclusion that I'm only ever going to trust a mint, or near mint state 1882 no H..... ......and as I'm probably never going to see another one for sale, let alone be able to afford it, that's me permanently out of the running.

  9. Talking to myself 😃 Having a look the 1882 No H is F112 which is 11+ N and the 1883 (No H) F116 also 11 + N ,they are the same date width centre to centre ,so there must be a chance that someone has worked on a 3. The top half of the 3 is almost identicle and in exactly the same place ,so maybe its not just to see if the H is missing but the 3 been altered at the bottom. Although i have never looked at them properly before and never bought one ,so may be wrong and just an idea.

  13. Well not long to go for 1933. She's now claiming it's a pattern penny, demonstrably false as shown in comparson with https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1933_Pattern_Penny.jpg eg look under the foot (fake is the bluish pic)

  14. Only if virtually mint state as in the one shown on the previous page, or it's clearly the correct die pairing. Otherwise, even if legit, there will always be an element of doubt.

  15. I see she was not willing to shell out for a wreath crown to make up the 1933 set then? See too how all coins other than the penny are in oddments box condition so would have seen quite a few years in circulation before the deceased thought to squirrel then away inside the clock.
