He should be reported to eBay, but I can no longer see a suitable category for reporting this... If anyone knows what options to use to report the items, plural, he sells, with his small print that these are not actual pictures, please do so and tell us here how to do likewise! What's the point? They won't do anything that interferes with their profits. I know what you mean, but... I have successfully reported items before for other wrongdoing reasons and eBay have removed them. If sufficient numbers report, eBay can and do suspend sellers breaking their rules. The seller might get the message if a lot if items are removed, they cannot get away with what is essentially fraud. Whilst I guess the seller didn't twig that his picture was of a 1903 open 3 penny and so worth a bit, had PWA bought it, he would have received an item not as listed - the pictures form part of the listing and this is why eBay have the rule about it. I see this seller also has, for example, a picture of a lustrous Unc 1904 penny (or actually allegedly two of them!) when I am sure any buyer would receive one in far lower grade! It just annoys me that lazy sellers, or worse still deliberately misleading ones, can get by because of apathy either on the part of eBay or by much more knowledgable potential buyers... Rant over! 😊 Edited February 21, 2022 by Martinminerva Quote
Bronze & Copper Collector Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 (edited) I have a recollection of somebody MANY YEARS ago having images of desirable collectibles (coins, stamps, cards, etc.) as part of the listing; and in a small font and a white or light font color (so as to be virtually unreadable although searchable) the information that " This Auction is for a Photograph of the item imaged and NOT for the item itself. A lot of money passed hands from a lot of disappointed, disillusioned, disgusted, and disgruntled buyers. Not sure what the end result was of all the complaints though CAVEAT EMPTOR!!! Peckris 2 Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 I've sent a request that they remove it from the auction. It's a convincing fake to someone not experienced, but to us it's an obvious repro because we know what to look for. 2 Quote
Diaconis Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 This photo is from their website, resident coin specialist Ken Payne, perhaps grading a coin? sorry Ken 3 Quote

I sent back their images with the tooth count illustrated. 130 teeth on either side - numbers which don't exist on genuine coins. Also sent them pictures of a fake 1869 penny with the same obverse/reverse, pointing out that that an 1881 penny would have a an "aged" portrait. And referred them to my varieties website for further info. They have now replied and are going to remove the coin from their auction. Edited March 24, 2022 by secret santa addition 5 Quote

I also told them that genuine pennies don't have a bust that is so deeply engraved with such 'modeled' hair and bodice details. 1 Quote

jelida Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 (edited) Is this really a modified effigy, despite the slab? Looking at the BM initials, and the colon after BRITT, I have doubts. But apparently a good investment. Jerry https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265719087505?hash=item3dde178191:g:HdMAAOSweUFimGwD Edited June 2, 2022 by jelida Add link Quote
