Madness Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 As per thread title, I'm interested to find out a little more about everyone here including your day jobs. If you're retired, what was your primary occupation when you still had one? I'm not working at the moment, but have a Bachelor of Music degree. Worked as a high school music teacher for about four years and a full-time private instrumental music teacher for about two. Also toiled in a very unglamorous administrative role in the insurance industry for seven years (loss adjusting firm). At the moment I do house chores and run around after my primary-school aged children while my wife works as a records officer at the local council. 1 Quote

Peckris 2 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 My longest career was in computing .. but we're talking IBM mainframes here, not the kind of device everyone carries around now. 1 Quote

Garrett Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 IT professional (Senior Technical Analyst) in the Oracle/Peoplesoft space at the local University. But I feel in love with old coins as a primary school kid a long time ago ...... Quote
Paddy Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Early Retired now, prior to that I had a Travel Agency for 12 years, before that I was IT Consultant on IBM Mainframes (Like Peck) both with IBM and other companies. Before that I was British Army - Royal Engineers all round the world. I collected coins for a while as a child and then got back into them while I was being a Travel Agent (too little intellectual challenge there!). Quote

Also partnered with NetApp, VMware, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Veeam, Cisco, AWS, Microsoft, Azure etc etc. Been here a long time now, were small but very good at what we do around Unix. 1 Quote

(One time I could also tell you about JES3, TSO, and stuff like that! All forgotten now.) PL/1 with DB2 and IMS/Db to start with, then another another little known application development suite called Sapiens (RAD). Then much more into the Business Analyst side for Insurance companies - a lot in support of the sales process. Eventually all got too stressful and cost me my marriage so I got out of the rat race. EASYTRIEVE rings a bell somewhere but I cannot remember what it did or where I met it! Quote
