Do I have a 1911 hollow neck here?
PWA 1967 replied to SilverAge3's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
No sorry its not one. -
I think a lot of the varieties put in the book were already catalogued in other books or information given him by other collectors as he mentions in the first copy of "Bronze coinage" only having 2000 halfpennies 1860-1970.The book was a study of dies and the indicators which he then gave a reference and only needed one example to be able to do that. The 1956 Halfpenny F474 R12 1001-2000 ,although collectors fifty years later are only aware of less than 10.

I believe freeman had a deal with a local bus station in the sixties were he bought them all at face value , then went through them and took to the bank himself.

Think its just my picture as using a magnifier looks the same as the top one and over a tooth. The third picture is a single exergue not double and from the ones i have looked at are all the same.

I have never looked before Terry and thank you for bringing them to our attention. I have just had a quick look on American eBay and the first few i have looked at a couple appear to be the narrow one. Am i missing something and wrong or are they the right type ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204589827335 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126257870145

Happy Christmas to all Forum users
PWA 1967 replied to secret santa's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I am glad my Grandaughter has grown up and the Elf has gone after what it did to me. Happy Christmas everyone and all the best 😀. -
Just an update on this coin and the 1854/3 that i purchased off eBay from America. I was charged the 20% on both and as i have numerous times before posted the relevant details and form etc to Border force. One thing that has changed is previously they have always posted me a cheque ,although today received a letter asking me for my bank details to pay me. Only takes a few minutes and if your charged to much ,why let them keep it.

Any garden pics this year?

A rare 1896 Very wide date and eight years looking at thousands to find a really good one. Gouby BP1896Ad ,NGC MS65 not attributed.

This picture that Terry put on a few years ago shows the difference well. The single has no line /s below other than the one thick one ,these are as in Richards picture the double. Compare the third picture with the top two. Regardless of wear they are easy to spot when you have seen a couple ,obviously even more so in hand 👍.
-
This is what i was trying to explain ,using pecks picture and Terrys to try and show the difference ,which although maybe the light and picture i am still not sure 😀.
-
You may well be right Rob ,i am often wrong. What made me look twice though is on the single the waves merge into the line and on the double are on top. I will put it down to the picture and my bad eyesight 😀.

Maybe its just the picture but doesnt look like one to me ?.

This is a disgrace ,i sold the coin as an altered date on facebook and the buyer re sold as an altered date on eBay. Now this clown has decided to try and have someone over as genuine. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266487532448?hash=item3e0be50ba0:g:GIIAAOSw65xlRNRf&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwDKw%2Fdk1UJGufEcBK%2FHmtR34Tpcipq5SaM0Tvk4bm%2FIcXFCILu2ldfG6pQRQhp2iU7txJHl3pnNyQK7H9ecCe5dAjrWYi9BVkzsjbF3iHXjVjcYGTCjPNyF7gSQRAFEsucsR8hkFqFp7jJxhi%2FH0SIZHVGvYDlG7Hz2ftZkpihzd79jv96zRooBdjWl%2BPqHDfD8yIaHucgRcq4RzJS%2BQS7PSqtun1voQMnuBUYuxzl5dO8%2BKLoTdplXTtgqzJquKxg%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR9r4_tzyYg 👎

Baldwin Auction Today, Mixed Results
PWA 1967 replied to VickySilver's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Its only easy if you know what to look for ,i know that sounds a bit daft but if you dont know the indicators like people didnt with the farthing ,your not going to find a genuine one ,unless its attributed correctly by the auctioneer. Obviously thats IF there are differences which i have been told in the past there is ,although being silver never took any interest and would not know what to look for myself 👍. If the St.James crown was one and people know it was who bid and wanted it for there own crown collection ,its the only reason i can think as to why it went so high as obviously rare with very few known ,especially not still in the sets. -

I must be missing something on these Crowns i know nothing about. One was in the Baldwin sale LOT 538 PF67 CAMEO £500 and was unsold without a bid ,so why someone would pay £6K for one a grade less i have no idea 😀. More i think about it and although still expensive maybe it was a 1953 VIP proof from the set and people knew the indicators which i have been told before are different ,like the Farthing and penny. I dont have a clue about crowns or silver but the only explanation i can come up with and although still expensive seems more reasonable for a crown collector who has know interest in the rest of the set and will be very few sold individually. -

The 1953 Halfcrown i could not believe and then saw this crown sell at St.James. Surely it will all end in tears as the prices seem ridiculous and makes me wonder if people are actually buying them. -

Must have looked at hundreds / thousands to find one in a decent grade for type 😂 Gouby BP1895Bb Wide date.

Quite a lot of pennies in the next Baldwin auction. https://thestrand.com/auctions/calendar/list#/auctions/5cec2514-7637-4f39-b576-3be0db39d6ad?q=penny&department=BDW&lot_status=all&auction_uuid=5cec2514-7637-4f39-b576-3be0db39d6ad
