  1. I never bore of this type of post. I have to keep lists of things to do (work, domestic and pleasure) Checking my coins falls into the latter.
  2. Very sad as we all grow old gracefully.
  3. Not really Declan My 2004 Rotographic books Somerset A01 in AU £120. The reference RB194 refers. I started with 10/- notes after I was given/discovered a 1940 unopened wage packet. It had 2 10/- notes. I sought out more and also amassed £1 notes. The rare ones are replacement type with a M prefix. You get scammers in the note field with ironing being the main cheat. (surprising there are not more female collectors ) Maybe the rainbow coin boys might like to add notes to their collections. Now where did I leave my florescent pens?
  4. I dropped him a note for this and his groat.
  5. Time for Stuart to get the kettle out and steam off those unfranked stamps.
  6. With silver you can pick up job lots of poor quality detector finds. This could be your raw material.A couple of earth filled flower pots for storage. I would imagine it would't be too difficult to dupe a finds officer.
  7. I put 2x2 flips into plastic pockets. Britannia do 20 slot plastic pages for 3 holed albums. Numis mini wallets house 60 coins in 10nr pages. If you are worried about moisture store in the vicinity of a radiator and make liberal use of silica gel sachets. For any lesser coins I put into flips,ID them and store them in the boxes the flips came in. (Long boxes sourced from the US) It was handy working on a USAF base a few years back.
  8. I order one as well, perhap it will be possible to defuse the leds somehow. Well Gary there may well be a couple of these being sold on the Suffolk car boot scene in the near future. I think with other peoples input these could be a winner. Diffusers, background, lighting position etc Copper coins maybe suitable, especially light chocolate coloured beauties.
  9. A normal self adhesive 2x2 flip do a nice job. If you want to get the coin out it is cheap (cost of 1 2x2) A capsule seems to be the poor choice between flips and a slab. I bought a few capsules for misc coins that are not cabinet, tray, flip friendly etc (ie large).
  10. Well I've ordered one.The lighting will need a bit of work.It does look window cill friendly though for natural light plus I have a selection of twisty/magnetic LEDS.ETC Any varieties that require close ups can be taken with a manual set up/micro scope.
  11. My finger is poised. Sod it...What is £40.
  12. Just me You MUST write this information up. I believe Rob is working on a new ESC and this kind of info would be the icing on the cake.
  13. I recall there were many articles/surveys in the old coin monthlies. Maybe one of the 1/- boys can point you in the right direction. I will have a flick through some of mine.
  14. For £40 odd looks worth a punt. The stamp pictures look good.(I have my fathers collection that could do with a bit of attention) I also have my own banknote and cheque collections. Maybe a bit of experimentation on the coin lighting though. What is the problem with 3MB?
  15. Is that just a weak strike? Or is it a nice coin that has had a lot of wear?
  16. Before Wiki we had little.(before internet really) My mother was a Librarian and the family home had a full set of Britannica which was cutting edge. Now my mother gets me to look up loads of info on the internet for her competitions/quizes.
  17. Got my North 1 from the Midland Fair. Immaculate & £10
  18. What is this absolute madness? (I've got 3 comming) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-New-Uncirculated-and-Sealed-UK-Legal-Tender-Solid-Silver-20-00-Coin-/221303953392?pt=UK_Coins_OtherBritish_RL&hash=item3386be57f0
  19. I see Rob has been rummaging through the £1 tin again. The 2F York 2/6 is magnificent.
  20. A couple of vendors pictures. http://www.omnicoin.com/viewcoin/973636 (good old copper ) and one through the slab http://www.omnicoin.com/viewcoin/975916 This is how I expect 120 year old silver to tone.
  21. Ah So we have 3 subscribers to Readers Wives. When I went to Australia I got recognised......because I'm pretty big down under. Pictures of myself and my coins I will keep to myself
  22. I take due diligence of NT The eye appeal of a coin is very important to me. A carbon spotted BU will always play 2nd fiddle to a nice chocolate EF. With silver over 100 years old a nice steel grey is preferred.Although a edge toned coin is also OK. Never some fairground, rainbow toned freak. The Yanks can stuff their Dansco albums with these.
  23. Can't help it, although it does get my heckles up big time. I was just reading some Coin News articles about toning and AT from a few years ago, and they stress that one of the main motivations behind AT (apart from inflating the price) is to hide imperfections ... something to bear in mind! The toning IMO is an imperfection.
