  1. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=160388 Not my cup of tea....but hey. I also think PCGS have given it a grade above GEF to AUNC. I would be supprised if CGS would grade it.
  2. Welcome Jim No need to shout. There are a few Peck nrs for this date (and varieties not attributed) The pre 1860> copper 1d's are IMO a beautiful coin. There are a couple of bank account hitters.A nice series.
  3. I was looking for info on heated rear window switches and relays for my MG (i bought a hardtop for it over the weekend). There was a certain poster on a MG forum named Christopher Heinrich Perkins.....I wonder. Thanks for the tips you left Chris. It seems you cannot hide with the modern technology at our finger tips.(Facebook, forums ETC)
  4. Call of nature maybe? I don't think I've ever been to a pub by myself or not meeting anyone there. Did the thieves follow Lloyd from the fair? I've always felt safe at the Midlands (I wouldn't relish the tube in London) I have witnessed dealers helping each other to load up stock after fair's. Maybe it is time to think of installing CCTV on vehicles transporting valuable items. I watched an insurance fraud documentary recently which proved these systems worked well.
  5. Maybe I'm just unlucky with the Spink's guide then as, whenever I see something at auction that I really want, just for me, which isn't often, it always sails WAY over the Spink guide! Spink price the commonest types. Trouble is if you really like something several others will too.
  6. Oh Dear Another bit of pewter. I emailed the seller 6 days ago. Last time I emailed a buyer of a dodgy coin ebay sent me a warning. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1562-SILVER-ELIZABETH-SIXPENCE-MILLED-COIN-ORIGINAL-/390671525013?ViewItem=&ssPageName=ADME%3AX%3AAAQ%3AGB%3A1123&item=390671525013&nma=true&si=bITEbbYdlASa1xOdfU3Ub2O0L2A%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  7. Most modern Macro camera's will produce a good result with steadiness and good lighting. Several good threads can be found on Coincommunity.com I have a couple of Nikon Dslr's without macro lenses and a £30 Cannon powershot A800 pocket camera (bought on recommendation at coincomm.) I think Richard's photographs are excellent.
  8. If they were stolen to order I think they might disappear into the either. It really must be a show stopper when something like this happens.
  9. On the other hand, while I wouldn't pay £424 either, there is a phenomenal difference in scarcity between VF (or sub-EF) examples, and genuine EF or better. My own example (MUST upgrade!) is definitely sub-EF : 1836 halfc obv.jpg Nice coin Peck Looks OK to me for a type collection. I do like those 6d's Actually I do like this design.I believe I have a couple of low grade examples. One day I would like to move these on and get a quality 35.
  10. It doesn't looked dipped.I quite like the tone. I wouldn't pay Spinks EF £424 (considering VF is £85)
  11. Looks a nice van Bob.(I thought RV's killed these off in the US) You need the pulling vehicle to match.
  12. I also have an interest in antiques, fossils, fishing,Ipswich Town fc,DIY and my newly acquired MGTF.(Mrs Peter is taking an unhealthy interest in this) Just the motorbike to go now. Detecting is also an interest but getting permission on new sites is getting harder.
  13. Win some lose some. That's life. It is the ones you miss and the benefit of hindsight that keeps you going. With varieties in virgin territories you have to to define your own. Stuart...pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) time.
  14. I wonder how many times we all bid against each other on ebay?
  15. You can always bluff, double bluff and treble bluff each other & still get skinned alive. It is best to tap into the auctioneer.
  16. JaggyNI You can never have too many books. Rob didn't mention that you can buy albums which take plastic sheets that can house 2x2 flips. The flips can also be stored in long boxes. Keep the coins in a dry environment and save all those silica sachets.
  17. Any form of Cartel are illegal gents. You lot will be shilling before you know it.
  18. Welcome Chris Why stick to one denomination? Buy what you like the look of in appearance and price. It will soon drop into place. Buy the best you can afford. I won't dis Coin Yearbook it is fairly cheap and may give a beginner a bit of advice. There is far more usefull advice available on this forum.A better pricing book which covers varieties and more useful info is Collectors Coins GB (about half the price as well) (Covers 1799-1967) The same publisher also sells Roman Bronze and Silver books which would serve a newbie well.
  19. Thanks for the info cristatus, would in interested to hear your final thoughts, as I've got to be a little more organised now myself! My own simple folders with 1567, 1568, etc just ain't good enough any more!I still operate standard excel spreadsheets. One up from the well thumbed note books which still abound. In theory I keep spread sheets printed in my file which I amend manually as I buy/sell/improve ETC It still works for me.(Windows 95 I started?) If I do up grade I will run both systems.
  20. Thanks for the heads up chaps. I've been trying the local auction house (general sale) but was dragged by my ear out of there by Mrs Peter as I was taking an interest in 30 ish large lots of fossils and rocks/crystals. The coins were TAT. They also do a Fine Art auction...can't wait.
  21. Whilst discussing TPG's and varieties I understand that in the US not all TPG's recognise the same varieties. This is causing a nice little can of worms.
  22. Coin 1 Overall EF unfortunate digs on George's neck. Coin 2 NEF Coin 3 A/UNC with a few stains which brings in down to EF plus a smidgen on value. Coin 4 NVF/GVF !!!! Coin 5 VF/GVF Coin 6 NEF The grades are anticipated CGS opinions Most dealers would add half a grade to these and in normal size they would look fantastic. Nice coins as usual Paulus.
  23. It and other collections are on Colin Cookes site
  24. Hi Asumal. I think you know. Value would be in the silver. It would make a nice pocket piece.Silver has a nice feel to it.
  25. Peck Are you on the nightnurse again?
