  1. It's a penny of Edward I, Class 1d.
  2. Now that's what I call eye appeal!
  3. Freemasonry has been around since late medieval times but its popularity really took off in the early 17th century. Most days I walk past a masonic hall but it became privately owned in the mid-20th century as the Masons were very much in decline. I understand that it is now seeing somewhat of a rise, but I cannot personally attest that.
  4. I really don't know my ancients but it looks similar to a Constans bronze, with the two victories holding wreaths on the reverse. See this coin, for example. If you could get some better photos the legends might be easier to decipher.
  5. There'll be far more people in the auction room and with current trends it'll be interesting to see what it fetches.
  6. Which auction house, may I ask? Unfortunately I can think of many like that. But there's one in London that is particularly famous for that and then charges astronomical prices.
  7. Exactly. I wasn't suggesting an armed occupant, merely an occupied house with the possibility of a gun being within the confines of the walls. Even so, I do agree it seems overly-forceful.
  8. Perhaps because they couldn't be sure whether the house was empty of other occupants and with the possibility of a weapon inside surprise was the best tactic. John will be better placed to answer.
  9. Ah, my bad. Hopefully it's not applicable, then! (P.S. Good to see your old man lives in Durham, a wonderful part of the world! )
  10. Sorry to hear that you're having to go through all this, Chris. I do hope it gets rectified soon. I'd advise you to read through this, specifically the last part where they state "As a general rule, compensation for damage caused after a lawful search will not be paid." I'd advise contacting a solicitor, although I suspect you've had enough with them after your Lighthouse fiasco. Good luck!
  11. When I get access to my collection in the latter half of June this is something which I'd very much like to assist with. It's a good idea to have it as a webpage for easy access.
  12. Pictures sent. Check your inbox, Hus.
  13. There are few forums for my area of collecting and so the vast majority of my social interaction of the hobby takes place via emails or in person. There's nothing better than a few pints with a fellow collector!
  14. The first piece looks more like a piece of Irish Gun Money. See here:
  15. I'll be taking 24% for bringing this to your attention.
  16. I hope you gentlemen like a good bargain...
  17. All realised prices are now on their website. Lot 1051 sold for £6,000 before buyer's commission.
  18. Not I but I really wanted that Barnstaple. It was such a pleasing example but I'm not willing to pay way over the odds.
  19. Whilst it is true that many coins attracted a more than premium price I felt that many of the lower grade Aethelred IIs were going for pittance. It just goes to show that the market for common, average pieces is not going to catch up at the rate the rest of the market is. Still, it was a fantastic selection of coins in today's auction and I was lucky to walk away with a few.
  20. Paulus, It's an Elizabeth I penny, minted at London, of the 6th Issue with the initial mark being a crescent. This would date it to 1587-9. Hope this helps. Clive.
