I've had hammered silver sent to me affixed to a bit of paper by brown parcel tape but I've also had coins sent to me merely placed alone in a normal envelope to the point that I'm presented with a pile of coin crumbs. Another pet peeve is when people completely write your address down wrong, even though it's typed correctly on a screen in front of them.

That is true, a guideline as to rough amounts would be helpful. So people know which is worth selling individually and what's not. I don't like looking through the listings of plain, old cut halves on eBay when they're standard Nicole on Canterbury...

A cut half of a Saxon or Norman monarch will retain more of its value than a Henry III Longcross, for example. However, as has been mentioned, it is all dependent upon the eye appeal and rarity. A cut half of Ilchester for Henry III will go for far more than one of Canterbury and the same can be said for rarity of monarch and class, too. A catalogue would be nigh on impossible as there are just so many variations that the catalogue would be mammoth in size and pretty much worthless.

A few bits here and there. Nothing of note but there were some nice Saxon and Norman pieces, and a couple of shortcrosses that I wouldn't have minded. How did you fare?

A quick bit of research rules out HMS Association as this was in 1707 whereas the date on your coin is 1740. The Dutch East Indiaman Hollandia shipwreck of 1743 is very likely as many pillar dollars were recovered from the Isles in 1971.

Pillar Dollar is the correct term for these, rather than a pillow or a piller. Yours seems to have a wonderful sentimental link, you must be pleased you rediscovered it.

As an archaeologist myself I disagree with your interpretation of Evans restoring the site. When I first visited the site I was shocked as he has merely reconstructed the site with many of the styles based upon unsubstantial evidence and using new material. I don't think he should have left it as a pile of rubble but, unless properly recorded an imaginative reconstruction should not take place. But, back to coins, that is a phenomenally good repair!

Henry VI groat of London mint, leaf-pellet issue. Leaf on neck, fleur on breast with pellets by hair and an extra pellet in two reverse quarters.

I've got a nice token of Guildford, a town close to my heart, and know that Thomas Tompson and Thomas Wilmot tokens are fairly common. However, I haven't seen any with this design.
