  1. Not a problem, I bid up to £7.02 but you still got them for a good price! Let me know when you receive them if you want some more IDs.
  2. Ah, I was bidding on these... Top left is a cut/broken halfpenny, i.e. was originally a penny. Ed I/II Top right is an Ed I/II Penny of Canterbury mint, CIVI TAS CAN TOR. Bottom is a halfgroat of James I as Richard says, Second Coinage so 1607-9 due to m.m. Coronet. Feel free to email me more pics of coins including other sides and I'll be more than happy to help you further. I can be reached via Clive@HistoricCoinage.com
  3. The R in the centre of the reverse means that it's of Richard II as does the fact it reads RIC ARD on the obverse. I cannot tell from the photos as to more details, if you email me some better photos to Clive@HistoricCoinage.com I'll have a look. Are you thinking of selling by any chance..? Kindest Regards, Clive.
  4. And I thought you lot would be experts! Sold for £120! Yes, but eBay is the place where lots of stuff goes way over its true value, yours is just one of many of such cases... £120? I thought it was £90...
  5. £90 is a lot, if this were to go to auction I could see it reaching £60. If I were you I'd accept the £90 offer!
  6. A very warm welcome to you!! I'm more of a hammered man but look forward to seeing your coins and reading your posts. I know what you mean about coins with a story, holding an Anglo-Saxon penny and just thinking of what it could tell...
  7. As the portrait is half decent I'd be happy to take it off your hands for £20...
  8. Whereabouts are you? Perhaps one of the members could take a look for you.
  9. Welcome Yorky! Firstly, glad to see a detectorist and collector on this forum. This penny is indeed rare, in Fine it books in at around £330 and in VF around £1300. But let me state that these prices are only a guide, if you were to sell it you would most likely get slightly less. So yes, this is a rare coin and a nice example too! Kindest Regards, Clive.
  10. If you want Lighthouse coin capsules, check out my site, only £2.49 for 10, cheapest I can find on the net! http://historiccoinage.com/supplies.aspx These are great, every hammered coin I own is in a capsule, durable, lightweight and scratch resistant! Not to mention that they are harmless to your coins!
  11. On the outermost edge of the crown it looks like a cast-line, a rough surface left by the machine that makes hundreds a day. The face of George appears to lack detail and the coin appears "grainy" rather than a smooth surface that these coins normally have.
  12. Which country are you from?
  13. Wonder if they do teas...
  14. The award for the best coin photos goes to... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EDWARD-1ST-HAMMERED-...id=p3286.c0.m14
  15. This is your coin but in much better condition, as you can see, the dates affect the values greatly on some coins. http://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotviewer.ph...79&Lot=2186
  16. The one with attractive patchy toning and little wear is worth more than yours. Just rinsing a coin under the tap does not count as cleaning, just make sure to dry the coin if it's copper etc... Cleaning is using chemicals or something like a coarse brush to get dirt off.
  17. Everyone knows that Edward II minted Groats... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Edward-II-Medi-Eval-...p3286.m14.l1318
  18. Wait 'til you see how they sell hammereds Chris! I've been campaigning against them for many months as they scam newbies to the hammered market.
  19. My thoughts are that someone, perhaps a schoolboy or a lover, put the initials of a partner or himself on the coin for the novelty factor. I have sold many cartwheel pennies which have had initials stamped onto them and found out that it was the initials of a market trader, it could have been some form of advertising for his clients. Either way this is definitely post-mint.
  20. The two letters on the obverse look like a standard countermark to me, i.e. someone's initials have been put on it after it left the mint.
  21. A jeton is a token or a counter, very common and found all over Europe.
  22. Have any pictures? As for your collection, it's up to you. You could sell it, keep it, continue collecting etc... Cheers, Clive.
  23. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...sid=p2759.l1259 Oh!! If it's stamped WRL then it must be genuine...
  24. Top right is an Angel/Half-angel weight and the one in the middle of the top row looks like a Noble/Ryal etc... weight, I'm interested in these and have several already. Most were shipped in from the low countries. Kindest Regards, Clive.
