  1. A very Merry Christmas to one and all on this great forum.
  2. Definite repro.
  3. Are you interested in Arabic coins in general or is there a more specific aspect you intend to focus upon? I can send you a bibliography more focused towards examining them in Viking contexts if you so wish.
  4. There's Cambridge Coins that isn't in Cambridge...or Cambridgeshire... But it is close, just over in Bedfordshire. Then there's Gannochy Coins, but I wouldn't recommend them as the two times I've been in there I've been treated rather rudely - it's pretty central in Cambridge, not far from Sidney Street Sainsbury's in the back corner of a cycle shop. There's also Cambridgeshire Coins which I've no dealings with so do not know what they're like.
  5. Happy birthday, good sir!
  6. Bloomin' gorgeous.
  7. Late to the party but I do agree that it looks to be a 2.
  8. A belated birthday, sir!
  9. Hmm. Thought the seller looked familiar... Looks like me deliberately buying the first fake didn't help stem things as this is now three from the same seller.
  10. Can't believe I missed out this - that'll teach me to take a leave of absence.
  11. I'd be careful about sending this coin to be repaired to the States as I'd not be satisfied that they have enough experience repairing hammered coins. There are a few people in the UK who have done good jobs - it might be worth talking to a few dealers about this first.
  12. A large proportion of medieval markets were on beaches. Always a good place to scout a hammy.
  13. That's an aVF in my book and worth far more than £300...
  14. This looks to be a class 10cf2 penny. It's technically Edward II but most references class it as Edward I. The obverse legend reads: "+EDWA R ANGL DNS HYB".
  15. I must admit their bullion can be attractive, but I still wouldn't purchase it for myself unless cheap.
  16. And it's being offered by one of our forum members. Looks like it has some deposits on the reverse, though.
  17. I get a 15% discount on FVF fees so selling on eBay isn't all that bad for me, but I only tend to sell stuff that's not in keeping with my website on there, e.g. modern coins or low grade.
  18. Very much so! Smaller denominations can be notoriously hard to identify. Nice additions for £12, though!
  19. They've been working in the region uncovering this royal tomb, too: http://www.livescience.com/47173-ancient-mausoleum-discovered-in-china.html Unfortunately the one you've linked has been making the rounds in the past few days but is actually a find from a few years ago, e.g. this article from 2011, albeit the Daily Mail... Incredible state of preservation, though!
  20. These photos are much better! Both are Henry VIII as you can make out SPI on the obverse which is part of the "h DG ROSA SPIA" legend typical of these issues. The one on the left is London and Spink 2356. The one on the right looks to be the same, as I can make out "ON D" on the reverse.
  21. Yep, there are many varieties in this series. Larger/clearer images and more precise measurements would narrow it down considerably.
  22. I'm not convinced that they're annulets. The one on the right is definitely a die flaw or excess 'blob' on the blank, and the one on the left isn't regular. It's got the distinctive Tudor portrait, and so I'd be inclined to say it's Henry VII like this: http://www.historiccoinage.com/shop.php?action=full&id=1001 but I'd need better images to be sure.
  23. Or Henry VIII. What's the diameter in mm?
  24. It's a Henry VII halfpenny, by the looks of it.
