I want to take it out for two reasons. 1) The C in NICHOLE looks like an E but it's hard to tell through the plastic. 2) Most British collectors prefer their hammered coins 'raw'.

I'll bear that in mind! I'll post my results and will try it later this week. It's more of an experiment than anything as it's not an overly expensive coin.

I've only gone and bought myself a slabbed coin. I must admit I was intrigued by how a hammered coin would appear slabbed, as I've never seen one in person. But I did buy it for the coin and so I'm now contemplating the best method of breaking the coin out, especially as the NNC do not seem to be as respected as other TPGs. I'm thinking of using a small hacksaw to open the slab but would welcome any suggestions.

I don't think the legend would support SWEIN ON SNOTIG judging by what letters I can see. If I had to say, I'd go with Paien on Nico, although this spelling of the moneyer is more often associated with Northampton rather than Lincoln.

I entirely agree. It's worth the BNS membership just for the BNJ alone. When I needed scans of some of Parsons' Aethelred II examples with extra symbols from the BNJ the online copies were useless.

Is it not a scarce date? The fine price in Spink is £750 compared to £175 for others.

Right, initial reports suggest that there's some misspelling on your page: Faisal should be spelt فيصل and not فصيالل as that would be transliterated as Fasaiall, and kingdom should be المملكة.
