  1. This article and its associated user comments are hilarious. I originally thought this was a piece of satire but, alas, it's not. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/11012398/Is-Gardeners-Question-Time-racist.html
  2. Not rare but all hammered is interesting! You've got fairly good examples and the Newcastle one certainly isn't an exceptionally ubiquitous example. Number 1 on this thread has an interesting 'cross' replacing the inner circle of dots between the side fleur of the crown on the left and the centre. It's just an example of a slight error/variety done when sinking the die. All in all, nice purchases! Was this a job lot and is it a sign of further hammereds to come?
  3. 1) Nicole on Cant. 2) Ion on Newecas.
  4. 1) Ricard on Lvnd. 2) Willem on Cant.
  5. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191273491324 I've sent a nice email to the seller.
  6. The French title here will only apply to the gold issues, groats and halfgroats. The smaller denominations just don't have the space for a complete legend. As for online reference, not that I know of. A copy of North Volume II will help if you're seriously considering collecting late medieval hammered issues. Here is a reasonably-priced used copy.
  7. Depends on which countries and the years. But, I suspect, if they're from this era then there's not going to be too much value as they'll have most likely been picked from change.
  8. A quick look makes me think it's a Pre-Treaty Series E. Appears to have unbarred Ns and the obverse ends in II instead of LI. So this would be a variety of Spink 1586.
  9. The fact it weighs about double a genuine one and the reverse reads GRVNAL TANVATS (Grunal/(Dave Greenhalgh) operates out of Tanvats in the Lincolnshire Fens) should be enough!
  10. "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available."
  11. I emailed the seller earlier today and I know of at least three others who have emailed. Will be interesting to see his course of action as I suspect this is a genuine mistake as I've had good experiences with him before. Perhaps someone planting his fields with them.
  12. It might very well be! I do not have the book and am far from an expert in Scottish issues.
  13. It looks to be William the Lion and most likely Walter Adam on Edinburgh.
  14. It's most likely an alteration made to the die and I've seen a fair few of these 'errors' on coins of Elizabeth, James and Charles I especially.
  15. Canada, I assume. See here.
  16. Thought i'd email the seller and ask how much he wanted for it (realisticly) and see what he comes back with, then i'll see how Trustworthy he is when i ask if its a copy The big give away (apart from the word copy and the WRL stamp...) is that the description is copied & pasted. The seller cannot speak/(type) English and so I wish you luck in getting a coherent reply.
  17. Very nice coins! I do like the dollars indeed. It seems pretty strong just before 'ENGLAND'.
  18. Another replica Elizabeth I misdescribed... I've informed the seller.
  19. I have a feeling most of us do that to those that deserve it. Anything odd in the bidding history? There's that one bidder who has placed 39 bids...
  20. Will the acknowledgements be up to date?
  21. link Yep, Peter, think Garrett's referring to this ^
  22. ? Not you, Dave. The Dave in the link.
  23. Another replica Elizabeth...
