Its a thistle below the bust. The George III's all look absolutely fine, no idea on the small hammered (not my thing at all - although I love to find them :)) -the big one looks remarkably like a really bad Lizzie 1st. 200 quid? No way.

I haven't had the opportunity to get my hands on a Gothic, but this (practice of restrike/repro/copy/ripoff etc.) is seriously going to make the task of getting a genuine one much harder, so if you have one I guess the rule of thumb is now either slab it or ensure you have a decent set of dcos to go with it.

There were no initials on the second head, 1839-1863 though, so you may be looking for something that isn't there. (Fox Mulder wants to believe too!)

When there are initials they show up really well.

Additionally, It looks like the tags used to pull the coins have marked most of the set, with the exception of the crown and one of the shillings. Whilst it's a very nice crown, I wouldn't be happy it's the original, given that it has no hint of similar marks to the others (check the obverses on the link and you'll get the idea).

That seller has lots of ... copies, a very varied selection indeed.

Natural light and plastic capsules doesn't do the modern coinage any favours, but then modern coinage isn't that pretty to start with.

I agree, it's not an "error", it's a malfunction. It's definitely not in the same league as the later Vicky B/R RITT examples.

I guess I should add .. "catch up on virgin, not sure about sky". On virgin, search for detectorists and explore the show,->episodes-> watch from catch up. On sky..... [hopefully someone else can fill in the blanks]

It's available on catch up, there's a possibility it would cause some confusion if you don't see it before the new series.

If this happens, I find the easiest cure is to reload the page (press F5 or click "refresh") . This makes the page forget what it thought it knew
