As per the title, which books are the most accurate/useful for Victorian silver coin errors please. Christmas is coming and "santa" needs some extra ideas, so more additions to the library are highly probable Additionally are there any specific online resources for Vicky silver which I may not have stumbled upon, but which are a gold mine of silver info? Thanks!

2018 Pre-decimal and decimal books

That annoys me to the point of frustration. "selling on Ebay" is not the same as "has sold" and the former really should include "and is listed by a complete numbnuts" I feel I need to list some old "error" copies of newspapers - the ones where they actually contained "facts" and did not deliberately mislead the reader. -
I'm just trying a new camera for when the images aren't required to be exceptional - ebay 50p's and forum posts where quick and dirty will do. I wanted something plugged in to the pc, which can sit connected unobtrusively for quickie shots, rather than having to break out the DSLR every time. This is a £23 webcam, and windows 10's inbuilt image software to crop the spare, I would be interested to know your thoughts. The first coin for your perusal then gentlemen.

I bet all it really says in the small print is "We guarantee that This certificate is 100% authentic, and any goods that accompany it may or may not be".

For A and B I'd start them at 99p, they'll make the same money anyway, but it'll save you listing fees As for the gold, it never goes cheap, you could do a search for the specific coin types and on the left select "sold listings" to see what prices have been realised recently. If you put the "other" coinage into groups on ebay, I imagine that would get a reasonable return too, without the need for lots of indiviaual posting.

I love how people have suddenly started going through their lofts *really thoroughly*. Honestly, I wouldn't be able to find the Titanic in mine, let alone a solitary gold coin!

Well, it looks like it should be gold - a 5 Pounds.

it was in search results, I didn't willingly search for "sh1t coins on ebay" -

Thanks for the kind offer Rob, but "none" is preferable -
B should be smaller than A, I would expect 2-10mm if it were gold (but the reverse looks more like that of a 2pound rather than the reverse of a 5 pound), so this is what makes me think it's toned silver rather than gold, making it a very nice Crown as well. Given that you've posted 4 very nice coins, the rest of the hoard may also be a little exceptional, even pennies can be worth considerably more than a couple of quid.

You might get a week or maybe a fortnight out of them, depends ho comfortable you like your holidays to be I shoudl have said, size is also important (as wel as weight if you could). Is top right Silver or gold, my monitor makes it look possibly like a toned silver. If the top are 39mm Left would be a crown, and right (if gold) is possibly a 2 pounds coin Bottom L half sov and right Sovereign. Dates and better definition photos would be required to assist with grade and possible value, however I'll leave that to our local experts. I stand to be corrected on all of the above due to lack of sufficent size weight and date info prior to posting

I noticed an outbreak of "interestingly toned" coins on the 'bay last night. Mainly Vickies, but may have been some post 1900 too. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Queen-Victoria-One-Penny-Coin-1901-In-Capsule-Good-Condition/182945753365?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144 Looks like this seller has found a way to get this finish, heat and something I guess (it looks like when you polish a hot motorcyle exhaust). -
I found a suspect 1905 shilling in a recent job lot, fortunately I didn't stump much for "everything", but knowing how hard and expensive real ones are, gives me reason to believe it isn't kosher (that and the edges feel like they were pressed yesterday). I just need to find a decent place to bury it for a thousand years - perhaps with my ashes and a couple of Romans and a few Olympic 50p's etc lol :))

It's certainly not unreasonable that people want gap fillers, I quite understand it, but in 50 years time when these collections come up for sale it'll be an absolute nightmare explaining that all the best most rare coins are utter crap.

Wow, thats gonna smart a little.

I have to say, I've come across the odd capsule my sausage-fingers couldn't get to grips with. Doesn't mean they're old. I bet his is superglued though, just for added plausible deniability.

I find it had to believe people pay that much for obvious repros. At least the chinese do theirs in a really convincing style! (gits).

They don't come much better!
