  1. Found and digested the acetone cleaning thread, acetone is on my list of stuff to buy today, and I'll give it a whirl (with a few of its comrades) and post the results later.
  2. Maybe you need to use ebay like the modern generation .. chance a buy it now with silly money, plenty of those go through every week judging by the "sold" and "completed" listings!
  3. Sorry to resurrect this, but.... I found this one among the many in my latest acquisition, which is quite different to the many regular fuglies in there. Any possible chance of a yay or nay to satin please?
  4. Really not familiar with your camera so it's hard to say. 35mm might be a bit short though - when I can be bothered, I use at least 55mm and normally a longer lens up to 250mm so that I have plenty of room and the light is sufficient far back so that it doesn't overexpose the shot. If your camera has a mirror lock-up option, you could try that as it will also help to reduce camera shake, even when using a timer.
  5. Your camera will have a minimum distance it needs between itself and the subject, normally this is indicated on the camera body above the lens, although I'm not familiar with your model. Also if that's your lens, you might want to clean the finger prints off it
  6. Is this a really subtle attempt at advertising?
  7. Great informative replay, thank you Jester!
  8. Thats a beauty of a find!. Crappy photos but my best find this week...
  9. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1983-Royal-Mint-ERROR-NEW-PENCE-2p-Martini-Uncirculated-Coin-Set-RARE/152572825363?hash=item23860c8f13:g:ewMAAOSwYvFZM~9D Heres a real one I guess...
  10. Really love that florin!
  11. Good luck. It might be worth you checking out the Finds liaison Officer for that area from the PAS website, they will have access to all previous records. https://finds.org.uk/contacts
  12. If they were Roman (or any other significant type of treasure as deemed by the Treasure Act), they would be classed as a hoard and would need to be declared, as I guess they weren't previously disclaimed under the Treasure Trove law (were they? ... paperwork required). If you can get permission I'd love to help! Its a great tale, it would be good to finally lay it to rest either way.
  13. The oval looks to contain 925 in both, so a spot of sterling. The longer one .. really hard to see, so I'll have to re-shoot them with a different lens and a stand.
  14. Thanks for the reply - they sort of look rough but at the same time don't, when in the hand .. I think my lack of a decent macro lens doesn't help (along with needing to practice my lighting and using a copy stand...) 2 minutes, let me see just how good the shot was.
  15. Are you buried in a snow drift somewhere?
  16. If you need larger images I'll post them one at a time. Thanks for your help!
  17. Here they are ... Excuse the crudity of the photos, I was too lazy to get the stand out...
  18. Thats some proof collection, and quite a lot of it is on my wish list (but don't tell the nice people on here :)). Unfortunately I bought a complete collection already this month and 'er indoors would frown quite a lot if I went after another without selling at least some of the last one! Good luck with it though.
  19. I'd have to say, I'd have bought the farmer out too. Unfortunately 10+ years of detecting and no gold for me yet!.Had a couple of really nice lizzie sixpences and oodles of romans though Still jealous of this as a detecting find though! as mrbadexample says, what are you going to follow this post with
  20. If you can get 150 for that in a plastic case, I think I might need to get at least 1 coin graded lol
  21. I have a couple of curios from a recent collection purchase which I'm entirely flummoxed by. Is there anyone here who has an interest in this area, and could offer an opinion
