jelida Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 Is this Marleybob by a different name? She’s from Leeds as well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255155828593?hash=item3b6878f771:g:BSsAAOSwxOthVHK0 Similar contrived sort of story, and look at the verbiage attached to some of her other items. And the number of faked ‘error’ £5 notes she has sold for good money 😠 Oh, and you can have the rag free too. Jerry 3 Quote
Martinminerva Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 Smells decidedly of fish!! Think this is another seller that should join the 'bunch of our souls' club mentioned on previous page! I will watch the item just to see how much some poor sap is taken for... Quote

Sword Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 (edited) It is just greed and naivety for any one bidding on a "1933 penny" on eBay thinking it could be genuine in my opinion. This established seller of reproduction 1933 pennies https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/dirkin49/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= is a familiar name to many "1933 penny" sellers. So, currently at £620 with a day and a half left... A fool and his money, eh? Or is it deliberately being bid up with no intention of paying?? ETA: just gone up to £940 in last two mins since posting... The world is mad! EETA: and now £3000 in another two minutes... I despair... Edited October 7, 2021 by Martinminerva Quote
Michael-Roo Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 £5,200. 3rd lucky 1933 find in as many years. Of course it's her: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255167767006?hash=item3b692f21de:g:WYUAAOSwcfZhKkNf 1 Quote

What's the betting it's a wind up merchant (hurrah!) and a repeated shill response? Quote

What's the betting it's a wind up merchant (hurrah!) and a repeated shill response? Maybe the public bidder is "her" as well - after all we know "she" has at least two ebay names. I'm no expert but out of interest I compared her penny with the real thing https://www.antiquestradegazette.com/news/2016/1933-and-all-that-165-000-for-britain-s-numismatic-superstar/ and there are many detail differences. I've attached pics of some text from each - see how the serifs are much straighter/cruder in her version (fake over real). Edited October 8, 2021 by JJs 1 Quote
Michael-Roo Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 (edited) I see she was not willing to shell out for a wreath crown to make up the 1933 set then? See too how all coins other than the penny are in oddments box condition so would have seen quite a few years in circulation before the deceased thought to squirrel then away inside the clock. Michael-Roo Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 (edited) Them away, not 'then away'. Apologies for the sloppy typing. Edited October 8, 2021 by Michael-Roo Quote
JJs Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 Well not long to go for 1933. She's now claiming it's a pattern penny, demonstrably false as shown in comparson with https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1933_Pattern_Penny.jpg eg look under the foot (fake is the bluish pic) 2 Quote

secret santa Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Sorry about the size and quality of pics but, comparing the obverse of the "fake" against the real thing, the fake has 10 teeth across the width of REX whereas the real thing has 11 teeth. 1 Quote
Sword Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 (edited) This is one of the reproduction 1933 pennies sold by Dirkin49 for £3.59. Good price for a repro. gap filler. Note the wrong serifs on letters and the "additional" wave under Britannia's toes. Edited October 10, 2021 by Sword 2 Quote

If the pics I've seen are the real thing it's just the pattern penny missing the extra wave, the "ordinary" 1933 has it. 1 Quote
VickySilver Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Wow, surprisingly decent bust of KG5 there.. Quote
secret santa Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 Yes, they are very good likenesses but fortunately they have different numbers of border teeth. True 1933 - obverse 162 teeth, reverse 184 teeth Fake 1933 - obverse 160 teeth, reverse 159 teeth ( I did a quick count and must check these) 2 Quote

Maybe it's an extremely rare fake worth hundreds of thousands (to marlybob1/dimondgirl) 😉 It's advertised as same dimensions and weight as the original, but is noticeably thinner than a 1935 penny. Sword Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 My guess is that "1933" object will at some point be relisted with a shocking asking price of between £50K to £100k. It will then attract more than 50 "bids". Bidders tend to have feedbacks of 1, 0, 179, 705, or private. Then it will be relisted again with some excuse about the "bidder" wouldn't pay up. Then the game will repeat itself. 2 1 Quote
