1949threepence Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 I got the same reply as Jerry. Here is my follow up New message to: lifeasas-64 It's our business if fellow collectors get ripped off because a coin is misrepresented as something it's not. I've reported to e bay. New message from: lifeasas-64 (54) iv had everything evaluated and been advised in detail on the value and specs of each item , if your not interested in purchasing it then I do not see the need to message me , iv seen the 'site' were coin collectors get together and bitch about peoples items and I find it rather pathetic and have reported various members , it would be a good idea just to mind your own business instead of concerning yourself with mine. many thanks Your previous message Hi, That's not a 169, and anybody who knows what one is, and is after one, will already know the difference. It's a very common 2 + D 168. A 169 has the base of the "1" in the date numerals centrally situated above a tooth. See Freeman page 55. Your coin doesn't. 1 Quote
PWA 1967 Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 (edited) Also other indicators may help you to do the honest thing and take the listing down. If you look at the N in ONE.......The two LEGS ( straight parts ) should both be to a gap between the teeth and NOT both to teeth. The TRIDENT middle prong (fork looking thing ) should be between two TEETH and NOT just below one. Hope this helps you to confirm its NOT right. Edited June 29, 2019 by PWA 1967 Quote
1949threepence Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 The relevant extract from the online chat I've had with e bay customer services is as follows:- Quote Customer Service Chat Transcript - SR# 1-217338355867 09:01:35 UTC Michelle After my investigation, I have confirmed that this seller breached our policy. 09:01:45 UTC Michelle For this reason, I am going to take an action against their account. Although I am unable to share what action we'll take due to privacy reasons, what I can assure you is that it will range from an informational alert, to restriction and even suspension on their account. 5 Quote

Michael-Roo Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 (edited) Maybe they ask the seller to remove it first? Pete may know more. That fake marlybob1 gothic crown is listed as having been sold at least four times since April 9th, so there must be a reason she has to keep returning with it. You'll note too it having acquired the toning sometime between then and her next listing in May. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Coins/58520/i.html?_from=R40&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=1847+gothic+crown&rt=nc Edited June 29, 2019 by Michael-Roo Quote

Bronze & Copper Collector Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I wonder what the legal ramifications would be if a dealer/seller sells a item that they know, by being informed by knowledgeable specialists, is not what it purports to be. Fraud possibly, with damages. More possibly if a member of a numismatic organization. Probably even more if it can be documented that said seller has a history of mis-attributed items for sale. Academic musings inasmuch as this could apply to a few sellers.... Quote
