azda Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 (edited) Thought we could maybe start a section for books, on books, good titles to have in the library etc. Anyway, just saw that Jeremy Cheeks has written something on the Queens Coin collection and wondered if anyone is adding this to their library, would make a great Christmas present https://www.tokenpublishing.com/shop/product/8006/17 Who"s running the asylum now these days, do we have any moderators? Not ones that show up with any great regularity, no. Sounds a good book. Quote

I think it is nice that there is very rarely any need for a moderator to intervene these days. Looking back, the worse instances of "emotional outbursts" occurred when people discussed the merits (or lack of) of slabbing companies. The demise of CGS has really calmed people down on both sides. Politics used to get some people hot under the collar. However, even the Brexit process is not causing anyone to post savage insults on politicians. Quote

Half an hour later another one says "well I thought it were a bit cool". Another half an hour passes, and the third fella gets up and says "Anyway, I'm going home, too much bloody arguing round here". 2 3 Quote

Well he wouldnt if he was sat with me ,if someone else wants to drag something up and i think they are wrong or out of order ,i will defend the other side. It does not matter to me if its in a pub or on a forum ,i will stand up for myself or defend someone else if i feel they should be backed up. The ones who put there head down or go home tend to be the ones who are two faced and go home to slag them both off . Sometimes its better to say nothing ,but not if the other person continues to go on with themself. Quote

Rob Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 It is such a broad and eclectic hobby that you will struggle to put a meaningful list up beyond listing the standard references. Anything specialised and you rapidly go off into nerd territory, with books costing a relatively large amount, which is something most can't stomach. Quote

A second hand Peck cost me £50 plus juice from DNW a couple of years back. The one Dave linked to is £40 - although it looks a quality production. Quote
Rob Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 £50 for this, £40 for that is normal for specialist books. The problem is for many people, spending a tenner on a book is still viewed as un-necessary expenditure. 1 Quote

TomGoodheart Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 I've merged the Brexit comments with Azda's Brexit What's Happening thread so this one can be kept for books. You can find them here: http://www.predecimal.com/forum/topic/12991-so-brexitwhats-happening/ Cheers. *Waves at Dave and returns to listening to Rammstein* 1 Quote
