  1. I remember i had a 1865/3 halfpenny clear as a bell overdate - got sold years ago and the money reinvested in my collection , farthings probably Was a lovely coin in fine or so grade and very rare and underated it often goes six or eight months before one appears on ebay
  2. Nice coin , wish it was mine -reverse particularly good
  3. Looks a bit dodgy to me - it is very round and well centred for a coin of that age - also it is a much faked period - I certainly would have been very warey about paying much for it
  4. A proof will cost a pretty penny , looks like GEF to me obverse maybe a little marked but cannot see properly from that scan not big enough
  5. That coin itself does not look like a hammered coin it really is to good , hammered coins always are never perfect by definition , its too round and well centred
  6. MMMMMmmmmmmmdrools at that OH shilling!
  7. I disagee the widow head shilling is a fine coin!! Only a personal opinion though
  8. I think 1886 is easy to find - no surprise really. Coins in GEF + are seriously rare esp for the early dates Two shillings was a serious amount of money in victorian times and though a few hoards have been found the surply of these coins in good grade is seriously limited , you will need deep pockets to get even ten or fifteen coins , never mind the full sel. the 1849 godless florin is a good start though there are plenty around in higher grades
  9. GEF a very acceptable coin
  10. Not as easy as you might think but it can be done with a lot of looking - I whould say that you have to live in either London birmingham or yorkshire and be a regular in the coin fairs . Helps if you have a good eye as well .
  11. At one time 1865/3 was thought to exist as well but I have never been convinced with any coin i have seen - u ever seen any likely canidates colin?
  12. Oh please , these coins fetch £1 or £2 on ebay are you really that interested in a poorly struck coin why not go for a 1918 penny at least it has a bit of age to it
  13. Coin is Ef / A unc loads and loads of marks on the obverse leave the coin well off unc or even a/unc
  14. It must be over a number of years as the profit stated in anual report 14-15 is around 11 million . this includes and old coins melted and turned in to new £35 million does not just dissapear into thin air (unless your name is george osbourn)
  15. oh its over a number of years not just 2014-15 then
  16. I doubt very much the whole profit from coin operations in 2014/15 was any more than is included in the anual report at around 11 million pounds , remember this includes all its other interests as well such as melting down coins and produceing new ones with the old (very heavy on energy use though). To be honest the royal mint is actually not a very profitable company and does not "make a mint " like most people think
  17. It is really easy to sort steel and copper and bronze 1p and 2p pieces all you need is a thing called a magnet.
  18. As for the above statement that the royal mint asked for the undated coins back , I consider this a load of rubbish the mistake was first noted in numismatic circles about eight months before all hell broke loose with the london mint office announcment to the public . It is thefore likely that the royal mint knew about the mistake and accepted the idea the coins were in circulation and worth face value There is not a cat in hells chance that any undated 20p coins would have sat in a bank vault for that length of time - they all ended up in circulation - I myself found four or five before the london mint office announcment , i only ever found one more in circulation afterwards. I would be interested in a copy of this bank letter but I strongly believe it does not exist as, the cat was allready out of the bag , horse had already bolted, a good eight months beforehand
  19. I have never heard of any country "withdrawing" coins if they get out it is just accepted and they just become collectors items , that goes for the olympics 50p as well - I think they were all issued in the £2.99 cardboard sets from the mint .
