  1. Thanks Rob, I did have my doubts, mis-attributed by the very well-known dealer then! Still R2 though, if you believe in such things!
  2. I wonder if someone could help with attributing this coin please? The date is not very clear due to reduction lines but I am 96% sure it is 1696. The regnal year on the edge is OCTAVO. I'm after the Bull/ESC number, I currently have it as ESC 1071 (532) but that would make it R3 and I want to be sure Thanks for any help!
  3. Totally agree with Nons on the wordpress recommendation, I do exactly the same. It also helps with posting pics on here, I just copy/paste them into a reply such as this one! Here's another newbie I'm quite pleased with, could do with less bag chatter though ...
  4. I may have posted this before, but just to revive the thread ...
  5. Just upgraded my 1913 shilling, pics to come, I have found them the hardest of all. Here's my 1924
  6. My best 1922 shilling, they really are very difficult!
  7. I think it's a v at the end so 1855 as Rob says
  8. New-ish upgrade to my George III halfpenny example
  9. Ah ok, thanks Rob
  10. At the DNW this week I noticed that milled Elizabeth I coins were described as, for example, "contemporary with Second hammered issue" - no longer any mention of the word 'milled' at all. This may have been the customary auction/dealer description for a while, and I have only just noticed, but can anyone shed any light on why the change?
  11. I'm waiting for a kinky comment from @Peter, it is from East Anglia after all!
  12. The height of fashion in 1794 Norwich. The items on the obverse are a ladies' fur muff and tippet
  13. Here's one of my Coventry ones, Edge: COVENTRY TOKEN. D&H 295
  14. I only have D&H as a reference, if of any use or relevance, this Birmingham Kempson token is correctly documented by D&H as having an edge inscription of "COVENTRY TOKEN"
  15. Here's another Kempson's Birmingham Buildings halfpenny Conder token.
  16. Yes, according to Wiki "St Philip's became the cathedral of the newly formed Diocese of Birmingham in 1905"
  17. Probably consigned this to Room 101 before, but sellers who describe a coin along the lines of "small dig in the middle of the Queen's cheek does not detract" Grrr On the one hand, it's a bit much to tell the beholder what they should ignore, while on the other hand, once it's mentioned, I can't see anything else! At least it gets mentioned at the outset, reduces returns
  18. A glitch has meant I haven't been able to post in this thread for a while, but it seems to be working again! I'm interested in all Conder tokens, at the moment I am trying to complete the Kempson Birmingham Buildings series, and collect a decent example for every Cinque Port and limb thereof. Anything interesting though, in a decent grade and at a fair price, I tend to grab it! Here's another Kempson, I'll post some of my more interesting ones now that I can use this thread again
  19. Just had this sixpence graded, it achieved a grade of CGS 82 (Choice uncirculated), by far the highest graded early milled coin in my collection
  20. I would have thought that might bring about an increase in nostalgia, not an increasing lack of it!
