  1. I'm a QS by trade and when I was a trainee I was give some drawings to take off quantities and they were imperial.
  2. Bill is highly regarded at CGS and is involved with forums/meetings etc
  3. It fooled 7 bidders.
  4. Krause Umm they do a job but fall far short of being accurate.
  5. Paulus is spot on. Selling as a job lot will fetch little. I would suggest and recommend letting Chris Perkins (who owns this site) a chance to give you an offer. He will be fair. If you can list what you have and produce a few pictures I'm sure it will be to your benefit.
  6. Should be back on ebay soon. We will be watching MP.
  7. Yep The one of many advantages of sometimes working from home.
  8. I've got several sets of proof coins(1970) and more recent. On Ebay sellers make quite a bit selling coins after breaking the sets up. Jordon Pick up a 1970 set.Keep the 1d and sell the rest and you will probably make a few £.
  9. The 1970 is available in proof sets. There are no 68 or 69's The 1967 dies were used until the end of predecimal !d's
  10. £10 worth there Simon and that is for the silver. Stick to what you know or dip your toe in with known expert/dealers. Clive Knipe of Historic coinage would be my 1st point of call or any of the dealers on the forum. Gillis coins also come highly recommended and if you want to push the boat out Lloyd Bennet or Rasmusen will give you quality.
  11. Yep Dave put me onto this...about £20 delivered. I often have my nose in this as Mrs Peter watches Eastenders
  12. That is far too much IMO but if you build in the shipping and you need the reference it is what it is worth to you. Gone are the early internet days of dealing with the US. i bought a job lot from a Florida dealer where I negotiated a discount and free shipping including a 1698 date in legend 1/4d described as EF ...it wasn't but nicer than CC examples. I also got a 1698 1/4d date in exurge for $10 date is clearly visible. No crap with customs. I still make regular purchases with another US dealer and we get around the customs crap.Thank you Uncle Sam to your nephew John Bull. My last major purchase from the states customs charged me the lot. I mentioned the coin was over 300 yrs old. At the end of the day I was being charged 20% against 5% ...I gave up after considering what stress it was causing and the vet bill on the cats. Make your contacts early I would suggest. There are ways around it. Especially if you have contacts working on the US bases as I did for a few years.
  13. We do need a drooling smiley. Someone has a nice job to catalogue those coins.
  14. Jordon The farthings 1771 - 75 were also heavily counterfitted especially 1775. Rooney I only go for decent cu.
  15. I won a 1853 florin whilst England were playing Scotland. It was a decent coin and cheap. Guess what the seller couldn't find it.
  16. and as struck it seems.
  17. Another good read from the Weekend Wanderers site.. http://www.weekendwanderersdetecting.com/INTRODUCTION/Calendar_of_Events/SAXON_HOARD_/saxon_hoard_.html
  18. I will always snap up genuine copper currency from 1700's. I think Colin Goode(aboutfarthings) has about 10 varieties of 1773 farthings...keeps me on my toes. Thanks Colin for a great site.
  19. I've considered joining the Weekend Wanderers but they don't seem to have many digs in my neck of the woods. I would like to see part of the hoard put into the market for collectors. Quite frankly I have seen so many abused coins in museums and miss-attributed. The detector boys seem to operate within the system. I did ID a load of Roman coins for a guy.I then found out he was a nighthawker...contact closed.
  20. Thanks for that Dave. A dream find.
  21. Of course we all want to find treasure but equally I love finding history. When we go to North Norfolk I try and find fossils and amber on the beach.
  22. I've just collected my youngest from the hotel where she works. Now for a big beer and a bit of Quest on demand.
  23. HNY Bob Don't you head South for Sunnier climes after Xmas.? I'm self employed and often burn the midnight oil. Predecimal keeps me going. OK Mrs Peter kicks me up the Arse sometimes.
  24. Our 2 cats are feral. Our 1st one was the original hissie monster but a tickle under the chin plus a bit of fillet steak(sneekie bugger) the 2 cats and our dog all cuddle up. Mrs Peter was feral aswell....well a Irish lad and English Officer's daughter. My 2 daughters have inherited my gorgeous wife's looks and not my 9" penis thank goodness
  25. Oh so true Stewie. My coin interests make me a coin slag. I'm just not coin faithful. Dinner is now on I don't reckon to survive another 12 hours.
