  1. I figured it was okay as the pictures where not the best. My only concern at the time was its grade. It looks hardly worn. I'd have to see another example to condemn it though and compare it properly. I've not looked in Mass though yet.
  2. I had the same conversation with my son. I've not bought anything in weeks myself. He was asking what i figured the market would do. I said i thought it would be okay as coins usually do not suffer from fluctuations in gold or silver prices. He said what if the market is flooded with coins from the families of ppl who die. Morbid i guess but he is 16 yrs old. It was a valid point. One i couldn't answer myself as I've never known a situation like this.
  3. Seeing as the hammered sections floundering a bit i thought I'd post this one up. It's a class 1b2 coin of Henry II The moneyer is Ravl (Randulphus Frowik) at the London mint. It's slightly different than some coins as the obverse reads HENRIE instead of HENRIC. This error/spelling has been observed in coins of class 4 & 5 but not in a class 1 coin so is unique so far.

  4. It is an odd one. I can't say with any certainty which Edward it is out of III or IV. Perhaps Dave (Grunal) will know if he still uses the forum.
  5. Same. 3rd of April with Tesco. I popped out today. It was ugly. Shops look as if they have been looted. Nothing of use in my local Aldi other than fruit and veg. Seriously thinking of dusting the air rifle off and going out lamping.
  6. True. It is slightly less clipped than most Irish issues. I'd be speculating if i said anything else. There's not much to go on but i think i can see RA which would tie in with EBORACI.
  7. There's also the possibility it could be an Irish issue of Edward IV. Try looking through some of the examples on the PAS website.
  8. I can't see how they sell much at all. They have some interesting descriptions of stock but with no pictures i won't touch any of it. If your too lazy to take and upload pictures your not getting my money.

Just thought I'd give anyone interested in short cross coinage a heads up. Gerry Slevin has published his new revised edition of short cross legends. Its a good read and he's added a Rhuddlan section to it. Well worth the upgrade from the original in my opinion. If anyone is interested it's available from Regton.com.
  11. Its not Iohan. Its Adam. It will be a class 7 coin of Henry III.
  12. Iohan struck coins under King John at London mint in class 5b1. He ceased at that mint in roughly 1206 and no further coins after 5b1 where struck at London in his name.
  13. She speaks sense. Great point of view. 👏
  14. These westairs are getting better. Quite convincing other than the stamp. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Late-Anglo-Saxon-Aethelred-II-Silver-Long-Cross-Penny-AD-978-1016-Very-Fine/254179165678
  15. Yes and Italy have assured Nigel Farage they will not vote in favour of an extension so it's unlikely to be extended.
  16. It's probably ABEL as the ON starts just before the six oclock position. SAMVEL would extend further round the coin.
  17. Abel would also end in an L. The portrait has the vacant look in the eyes you see on class 5c coins of John.
  18. I rarely buy Romans myself but it's hard to resist if a good British mint coin like London or Colchester pops up cheap. Nice buy for £8 that well found.
  19. It would. It's not listed in spink as being rare. I'd bet if i dug my Brooker Collection book out it wouldn't be either. The anchor mintmarks not rare that i am aware of. Have you seen the price of his other sixpence? That's way over the mark as well. Stu.
  20. Totally agree Frank. See it every day now with people claiming varieties that they are not. I'd stretch to £300 for it myself if it was suitable priced. People like that sell very little I'd guess at prices like that.
  21. Well it's certainly not worth that much lol. In VF my old 2016 Spink book puts it at £500. It's america though , they seem to pay silly money over there for common coins. A fool and their money is easily parted i guess. Anyone in the know will give it a cursory glance and gag at the price and move on i suspect. Ebays full of dreamers like this seller unfortunately. Stu.
  22. It looks like an Indian gold fanam of some sort. Not something i am familiar with myself so can't provide a full ID. Stu.
  23. Coinery does make a good point here i must agree. I think though for clear peace of mind I'd go with the return and refund , the what if factor will niggle away at you if you keep it and it could come back on you in the future if you try to sell it. As Jerry says do invest in some jewellers scales for future purchases and most of all " Do not let this put you off collecting" Stu.
