  1. My pierced one. Not sure if it's been pierced for the 1696 recoinage or if it was a touch piece. Always intrigued me.
  2. Nothing odd jumps out about it. Looks genuine to me. Class IVa with the extra I after the R of Rex. Sellers got feedback for a few sold Norman coins one registered with PAS. Stu.
  3. Think you're right. Looks like GILDEPINE ON C I guess if spacing was an issue they would lose the A after the C. Stu.
  4. The one Clive posted is struck further down the line than the one i posted so you've got wear on the die but its essentially the same coin. What are the chances of an original and a copy having these same features. That's all i compared it on quickly.
  5. I never looked at the obverse. The reverse was clear enough to see it's the same coin. They are becoming more common on eBay now. There was a John Irish half penny a few months ago as well. Same coins from Ireland. Looked like someone had put it through a rock tumbler to knock it about and add wear. I reported it but it went on to sell as usual.
  6. Did you click on the link i posted? Its the same coin just been cut in half.
  7. Yes. It looks like one of those silver coin copies you get from Ireland off eBay. Reported ! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255695189215
  8. You can rule out 5a1. The letter X is incorrect and the crown ends for class 5a1.5b2 is more likely. This guide is a bit better. It may help. Longcross Coin Guidebook
  9. Cheers Rob. That settles it then. Thank you. Stu.
  10. Thanks Rob That is indeed the same coin. Someone has marked Ex ER Duncan Elias on one of the tickets and bought from Patrick Finn 18/2000 No 507 Illustrated. I have the Elias book in my library. The type is listed as Elias 288. https://ibb.co/BPWwCQC
  11. I've picked up a coin with 3 tickets. 2 are basic with limited details but one has Patrick Finns name on it and a list number. List 18 which i think is the last list before he passed away. Its coin 507 from list 18/2000. Does anyone have a copy of the list or the PF memorial volumes who could confirm if the coin was sold by Patrick? It also mentions ER Duncan Elias as having ownership of the coin at one stage. Tia. Stu.
  12. Your Welcome 👍
  13. Its a coin of John. Class 5a2 PERES .ON.DVRE. (Pieres durham) Has the reversed S on the reverse. Hes the only moneyer i can match to that reversed S at the end of his name. He also has the stop after HENRI in 5a2 coins.
  14. Yes I'd agree class 2b. Nice example. Stu.
  15. You should of left them in your bathroom on top of the shower unit if you have one. The humidity would do the same job over time.
  16. Thanks Jerry. I'd of never figured that out as don't follow the Archers show. Stu.
  17. Please do explain?
  18. Good post Jerry. Thank you for your detailed response. I personally do not keep anything from my FLO. We have a good rapport as we share the same name. Everything i posted was just generally chit chat I've picked up from detectorists i know. I've been out of the game now for a few years but still have contact with people who actively detect. The main concern from most people is where is it all heading and is the hobby getting restricted slowly. Stu.
  19. I don't have a problem with it myself. It was just people getting concerned about say a bronze roman coin that may be of an emporer never found in Britain being seized from auction houses or spotted on ebay and seized. Individual coins of rare emporers can fetch a good price at auction way above what any musuem would like to pay. If they don't wish to pay it they could claim it under these new laws. Where is it heading is the big question and what will they now constitute as treasure going forward. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport have a task force set up apparently scouring social media , ebay and auction sites looking for items to seize / acquire.
  20. New regulations coming in with regard to Treasure laws. Caused quite a stink within metal detecting circles. There's concerns about stuff being seized if you post it on social media. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-55179360
  21. It's resurfaced. Better pictures. Definitely not right. https://www.chilterncoins.co.uk/henry-ii-coins.html
  22. Agree about the dix noonan description that's mess. Not sure who classified that or inputted that information. I have spoken with our mutual friend and he doesn't like it . So it's fair to say its definitely moody. I did notice some of the differences you've pointed out but not all of them. I definitely dodged a bullet with it and its opened my eyes for sure. Stu.
  23. For comparison. Found this on dix noonan website. https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=3272&lot=445
  24. Can anybody recommend a decent flatbed scanner for imaging coins. Are they worth the hassle or is it better to just stick with a camera. I've got a low end scanner but the results are poor as its only 300 dpi.
  25. See what you mean. The mass coin is different and isn't a match. I actually bid on it but it went above my budget. If its a fake its a worrying development. Why pick an obscurely spelled moneyer and mint if you were going to fake a coin. You would also need a good example coin to make a copy and the Osbei in Mass is not clearer enough to do that and I've not seen any others like it elsewhere either. The seller was selling other coins also none of which gave me any red flags , his feed back seems okay also especially in regards to coins. Nothing really jumps out about him. Its rare to see a 1a5 in such a grade that much i agree. Thats all i felt uneasy about really when i saw it.
