  1. Hi deffinately an imitation of a Lincoln Edward I. Very blundered obverse legend + O (E?) ANGL DNS HYB rendered retrograde and CIVI TAS LIN COL also rendered retrograde Doubt this is Continental as the workmanship is so crude would say highly likely local forgery produced around 1280-1300

  3. Thought it better to show the picture of the reverse for anyone that might be interested as unrecorded.

  4. I learned the hard way! and haven't kept any definite examples. I don't know if this coin from Google Images HAS been dipped, but often a coin that has been dipped too much will look rather like this: ... and yes, I'm talking about silver. Dip won't work on any other metal (it's why it's called "silver dip"!)

  5. I got a reply from the message I sent. Looks like it is a local forgery. Thanks everyone for their help. Dave

  6. Lest we forget, TPG's make generally make their decisions in a matter of seconds (the sheer volume of material submitted demands this...), whereas we as the collector can spend hours or days debating the accuracy of the assigned grade.. I am NOT defending them, just playing devils advocate...... will mistakes be made, of course they will. Will the collector disagree, quite often... However, in the big picture they are generally correct in their assessment concerning striking and wear..... I have die adjustment strikes that look worn but are correctly designated as die adjustment strikes with an appropriate grade assigned. Attributions of varieties are another matter completely. .... and I am not referring to that aspect as it has nothing to do with an assigned grade....

  7. Thanks again Stu. Yeah that link has some very good information and I'll be using it for first port of call reference in the future. I've messaged the site owner with a couple of images and asked his/her opinion. Regards Dave

  8. That got me as well Stu lol even though i knew what it meant from Rhuddlan coins. Doh! Glad you've got a solution Badger. Do look on that link i posted as it also covers contemporary imitations. It might also be worth contacting the owner of the site with images of it. He may be able to offer a bit more information on it. Best wishes Stu.

  9. This coin sold for £280 hammer at the LCA in June 2017 as VF/NVF. I could not pay nearly £500 for it, it as not an attractive coin and you are far better off waiting for a no problems VF at the same or a little more money than giving the vendor a £150 markup the coin does not justify. Again, look at past LCA and other sales. Jerry

  10. Well the near BU 1891 I bought from an e bayer in Norway has arrived. Absolute bargain, and apart from a very slight blemish on the reverse near the trident, and three negligible spots on the obverse, it's perfect. BU, but the lustre has slightly toned to a really deep orange. Despite all the hassle with paypal a few days ago, I'm really pleased. I know the 1891 is common, but scarcer in this condition:-
