Many thanks Richard, thought you would have one!!

I have taken your picture, rotated it, and positioned same as my top 1844 DFF above. These two coins are now shown below.

It is difficult to compare those border gap features with the pixels available on the 1843.

It does seem to me, however, that the die flaw can just about be seen on your coin in the same position......... also the small protrusion above the F.

First impressions, therefore, are that this points to a single reverse DFF die used on both the 1843's and the 1844's.

If you reduced the size of your picture to get it within the forum 500Kb limit then please could you email me the original thanks?

If you can get same picture with more pixels so that border teeth can be seen more clearly that would also be great.

Thanks Terry

Maybe weak sea rather than missing, but I've not seen it on 1930 coins.(Can you "not see" what isn't there ??)

The tide went out.

Wait 6 hours, and look at it again.

Blimey, Pete…considering the number of eyes that fall upon the eBay pennies, you certainly manage to winkle out your fair share of the gems!

A very strange thing happened on ebay this evening . A 1863 Narrow 3 came up for auction at 6 o,clock with a starting price of 5£ . I straight away placed it in my favorites box , but also copied the pictures . I looked in a couple of times during the evening to see if any bids had been place , and none were. Then again I looked in at 10.30 , and to my surprise it took me to an 1861 coin .

Now, I know I'm getting on a bit but I'm not that senile just yet. On my favorites it still says 1863, and to prove it the pictures are below.

Maybe they arranged to buy it privately

I am sure they did as it was an auction listing rather than a buy-it-now (I saw it too and took screenshots also, so you're not going mad, Terry). Changing the image and the title is a way for the seller and buyer to avoid others noticing - though they did - and to avoid a hefty eBay fee to boot. Wonder who got it and for what actual price??

Usually if I strike a deal with a seller, the seller changes the auction to a "buy it now" at which point I need to keep calm, waiting for it to pop up again, and then quickly buy it. Worked well so far

Very Best Regards

The F44 slender 3 penny - The seller contacted me separately afterwards asking me to verify the coin - he withdrew it earlier after realising what it might be. I asked him what he's going to do with it but he didn't reveal his plans.

1874 Penny     Freeman 67    6+H  Interesting coin this one . It seems to me that the F67  is much harder to find than the R12 rating given by Freeman , especially so in high grade . I could only find five examples ever sold on London Coins , and this seems to be the same with the F68  6+H  Heaton rated R13 .                                                                                                                          This example interestingly also has an over stamped 7 in the date which I have not managed to find on any other example with this die combination.  ??

Strangely I got this F68 just last week. Spink does not rate it that highly in terms of scarcity, so I am glad to hear it is rarer than that.

Ive not been interested in the Pennies...however this one was mixed in so why not show and join in,

I know nothing other than its Bronze, 1877, theres a chunk missing by the letter R on outer edge....is this a mint fault?

could this be a rare, valuable and scarce coin to behold???????

ok, over to you guys, all the very best "H" (uninterested in Pennies)

Nice enough coin and good to have in your collection.

I believe this is the normal variety, Freeman 91. What you really want is the one with the narrow date, F90, which is mega scarce and would be worth several £1000s even in this condition. Richard's website suggests fewer than 15 known!

Well thank you kindly Mr Paddy, I'm still unsure about these penny's you know, they just don't sing to me, nice to see everyone's with all the different variations but lost the interest within a few moments, Sorry! just not my thing,  However,  I'll pick them up along the way and show...and should anyone happens to want them shout out,

Ps..I beleve this is a £1.50p coin !?!??!?

Once again Many thanks and all the best, "H"
