Prax Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I must have missed something. Seems like a good coin but looks like someone spotted something on this coin that I could not put a finger to.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-1902-LOW-TIDE-PENNY-BRITISH-COIN-FROM-EDWARD-VII-UNC/311179591643?_trksid=p2060778.c100276.m3476&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140725133651%26meid%3D826f21de104b404a908a46f02a7292cb%26pid%3D100276%26prg%3D20140725133651%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D311163010150Did you see anything strange with this one? Coinery Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Just a nice quality 'low-tide' penny. Here's one I sold last year http://george-coins.co.uk/UNCAU-Edward-VII-LOW-TIDE-1902-Penny-P3139016.aspxI also recognise that spot on the reverse...I think I've had that one too! I must look! Quote
bronze mad Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 it looks like its been struck from a cracked die on the Rev theres a raised line on the legend of penny, obv looks ok to me Quote
ozjohn Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Me thinks you are getting too picky. If this example has a cracked die there would be plenty more with the same perhaps most of them who knows? The point is it is a low tide penny which is considerably less common than the high tide type. And the LT shows up quite often in high grade as it was the first issue of a new monarch and more were therefore put aside. Quote
Coinery Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Still an expensive coinI would've expected this kind of price, to be honest. Will be interesting to see what it realises! Quote
Prax Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 We will know tomorrow but I am with azda. Quote
CartwheelTwopence Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Is it just me or did that did seem to sell for a lot? For eBay anyway. Quote
bronze mad Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 he did well there. 9 bidders, if it were a BIN it would still be unsold, probably at that price, Quote
Coinery Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I've sold 3 over £200 in the last 18 months, 1 on eBay! I genuinely think that's what they're fetching nowadays? The Spink catalogue supports those figures which, I'm guessing, to be a reasonable reflection, given its own specific listing within the guide? Quote
Prax Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Acquired this today from Stanhttp://i.imgur.com/aHP4RXx.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/YzKsH4d.jpgAlso was happy to meet some of the veterans from the forum today including Mike and Dave at LCA. Quote
Colin88 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Nice coin....price seems about right....I would question the UNC grading as Britannia's boobs have been rubbed a bit...not in a good way....but still a good coin. 1 Quote
Error Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I'm looking for a 1915 penny in lustrous UNC......and have been looking for a while.....preferably under £50 but would consider more for a top example. Not at all easy IMO, so if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. 1 Quote
Prax Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 Re this lot https://www.spink.com/lot-description.aspx?id=14007000847Does anyone know what the bold 2 that the auctioner is referring to here is please? To me it seems like a normal coin and all the books I have referred to Peck/Freeman/Gouby do not mention about a bold 2. Prax Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Goodeve All,Acquired a 1902 and a 1922 filled 2 in date pennies today.I am aware of the filled 2 in 1922 but the 1902 is new to me.Here is a pic of the 2 filled along http://i.imgur.com/K7DtYJI.jpg side a normal 2 penny http://i.imgur.com/fzaqwA1.jpg. I have compared about 30 1902 pennies mostly in VF grade to the new specimen (which is a low tide) and did not find any which resembled the filled 2.On a related note does anyone have a recent sale price for a 1922 filled 2 please?Regards,Prax Quote
Coinery Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) Does this filled 2 warrant a premium? Pennies? The moment it's catalogued, and only 3 are known exist, and it's proven (either way) to be hitherto a common feature or, ideally, uncommon feature? Edited December 30, 2014 by Coinery Quote
Prax Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Does this filled 2 warrant a premium? The 1922 came with a mega premium. The 1902 was affordable (£40 on top of the cost of a AU lowtide). Quote
Rob Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 This is where I've lost the plot. I would feel embarrassed asking for a higher price for a natural die degradation feature. Maybe a spectacular flaw would warrant a bit extra, but die fill? Or more accurately in this case, the removal of a bit of die within the 2. Crazy. 2 Quote
